I just got Oblivion yesterday and I have to admit, it's a bit boring. I don't know if it has anything to do with me having to retrack a whole trek just because of a bug or what. It's fun at times, like in the Arena but I'm not getting that epic RPG feeling. Any tips? I wanna enjoy this game.

Lol, you're playing Oblivion. And you want an epic RPG feeling? Also, it's a Bethesda game, it needs mods to get the best from it.

Mods are your best friend with Oblivion. Head over the elder scrolls nexus and download some that you think look cool.

The reason why I didn't like it was the gigantic lack of NPC dialogue, due to their transition to 100% voice acting. They thought it would add more realism, but it just stopped me from using my imagination, which is an integral part of role-playing. Also, the setting is quite bland and we've seen it before in many other books, films etc, which is a contrast to the uniqueness of Morrowind's setting.

Oblivion is an excellent game overall, despite my liking it slightly less than its predecessor, and it is a testament to the potential that video games have as a medium.

The game nearly put me to sleep multiple times, and Fallout 3 was the same way. Bethesda creates some of the most overrated "RPGs" in existence.

It is very boring! The problems with this game are among others, stupid AI, bad animations, uninteresting story, flawed levelling system, large landscapes with nothing to do, NPC with no personality or charisma, etc. Fallout 3 is much better IMO.

You need to mod it, otherwise the game is boring and lacks quite a bit except ambition which just isn't enough. After applying about a dozen mods to it I loved the thing but it wasn't the same game at all except for the base.

I was bored at first as well, until I started messing around with mods. Then it got real good. So I'm going to say, get some mods.

Shame modding never picked up for Gothic 2 in English, truly an astounding game and the only open world game I play yearly.

To rebalance the game I used OOO, to fix the magic system I used supreme magicka, +5 attribute is optional as it makes the game easier but you don't have to reload for bad stat gains which I hate. If you don't like the base game at all then not much to do I'm afraid but if you saw potential in the base but hated how bland it was mods can easily fix it.

The game got AAA because people were wowed by how shiny it looked and the flaws aren't apparent until 10 or 15 hours in especially since this was most peoples first rpg.

Like everyone said, you need mods to at least make the game decent. I don't even suggest the total conversion mods. Just the interface, the map, all that is barely acceptable as it is by default.

Whichever way you slice it, your Oblivion experience can only be enhanced by mods.

Morrowind is by far the better game in the series. However, I am tired of people bashing Oblivion without even pointing out some of the merits it had over Morrowind. In either case, both games are so much better with mods.

I got Oblivion Game of the year edition for my PS3, then it was stolen along with my PS3. I will not be replacing Oblivion. Does that tell you how I feel about the game? If not, then let me answer by saying yes, I found it VERY boring.

I don't know if it was and I don't care. But I do know that the interface was extremely clunky and console-like. Also, despite the impressive world-size, a lot of the details were repetative, like caves or buildings. But I definitely think it's least a pretty good game. I never quite finished it, not that it's easy to finish it. The main quest is just a small part of the game.

After reading this thread, you guys have me thinking I should buy the game again, only this time on PC (it's only $20 anyways) and just mod the crap out of it before I even attempt to play it again. My biggest problem with the game was it's pace. It took forever to reach the next area because of not just how far away the next area was, but also because of the snail pace your char walked at. My youngest daughter did seem to like it though.

I beg to dissagree, i think morrowind is borring. Wait what? Yeah, because the tc is talking about oblivion being boring :P....but in all seriousness i wanted to say that because some people may find oblivion borring, yet rhere are people who think morrowind borring. So i guess in the end, borringness is not a game quality factor because it varies from person to person. I thought mass effect was borring and i remember another user saying that he found the witcher to be borring.

Oblivion is like a single player MMO. Most of the time you'll be running around from NPC to NPC killing generic monsters that don't differ from one another and clearing dungeons that look 90% the same (which are full of the same generic monsters btw).

I'd recommend playing something else.

Oblivion is like 20 hours long. Short-term RPG with no depth at all sadly. Morrowind has so much more too it, just roleplaying in the game is great. Gotta have imagination, you know ;)

Fixed.

Oblivion has nothing of what makes a good RPG. Everything RPG-related in it is completely screwed up.

The easy and powerful console and the mods allow you for incredible amounts of freedom, tho.

That's what I thought, I was reading about leveling. It's completely unexplained and grinding, e.g running into a wall for hours was suggested. I uninstalled it a few minutes ago, the game feels clunky and outdated. I guess this is what I get for playing games way after they're released.

The game was trash when it was released and still is, Grinding/leveling serves no purpose because monsters in TES games scale with your character, even if you spent 2 months leveling so you could kill some awesome monster, its strength would increase as yours did, meaning at level 500000 the monsters would be just as hard, if not harder than if you found them at level 1.

when they says play morrowwind don't listen to them morrowind will be hilariously bad, morrowwind is worse. Oblivion can get boring at times but then again it is a free roam RPG game. if you dont like it dont play it, if you want a feeling of awesome rpg game then you should definitely play Dragon age, or try an revisit the baldur's gate series.

You know what really annoys me about Oblivion. The idiots who say, 'it's much better with mods' or 'the game it should have been' when they talk about adding mods, they are probably right, especially in regards to level scaling which in my opinion broke the game. Thing is, why the hell must someone who pays money for a game, I mean when they come out they are around 30 pound, have to rely on third party developers to make the game even playable?. And in my opinion,it's still not great with the mods. Personally when I buy a game, I expect a level of quality and innovation from the developers, that was lacking with oblivion.Oh it did please the console crew but for anyone to suggest it is a good RPG is having a laugh. I remember buying morrowind, that game was excellent without any mods,I played it for months constantly.

Man, I must be in a minority of gamers in general O.o

I dont find Oblivion Boring, (I also dont find it to be an rpg), but I really enjoy the ability the player has to go stretches without combat or dark hostile places.

I much enjoyied walking around watching the scenario, go shopping in the citys and just muck about.

Games that are just one action sequence after another is quite annoying to me, since you never get the feel of the world, or feel you are part of it.

But yeah, mods atleast make Oblivion feel a bit like an rpg, and ramp up the diffeculty in a more likable way, then the auto level thing -.-

I guess different people find different games boring.

It's not boring at all and was revolutionary when released. With mods it's probably the best true free roam RPG I've played, I've now got -

Better visuals

Nice UI

Busier, more advanced AI

More intricate combat

A large array of new spells, including being able to kill and summon a Balrog

Large added quests which includes one of the scariest moments I've had in an RPG (Gates to Aesgard (spelling?))

A lot more types of monsters (giants, crocs, Morrowind monsters)

In-depth companion mods that have around 2000 lines of dialogue

More races

Able to become a Werewolf

Better quality sound, more music, more ambience

Better landscapes

I'll admit it's a pain in the ass sorting it all out but it's worth it in the end and makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
