Ok first, I am new to the forum so please excuse me if this is in the wrong place etc., and with regards to the Oblivion and VIsta issues, sorry, but I am confused- It seems that different users have had different results when running oblivion on their Vista machine, and, after checking numerous websites, and threads, I am none the clearer on the chances of success of Oblivion working on my PC. I read somewhere that the difficulties with the incompatibility were only present in the earlier versions of Vista? I do not know the EXACT reason, possibly something to do with weak drivers... Anyway, I have just bought a PC to play this game, so I am assuming the Vista will be the most up to date, so the question is: WILL IT WORK?? Also, is there still difficulties experienced with the .64 biy edition and this game? Finally, as I am sure many people are asking, is there any possibility that Oblivion will work with the new Windows 7 when is is released? any thoughts or help would be very helpful.

I play on Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Oblivion's been running great since 2007. The only problems I have is a very rare (like it happend about twice this year) crash in game, and a crash when I exit the game. The later one is no problem because I exit so I don't care if it crashes.

Oblivion installs and plays fine on Vista. The issue you're most likely reading about is not being able to install the download versions of the DLC on Vista x64, which is true as far as I know. The versions that come on the Knights of the Nine retail disc will install fine on Vista x64.

Thanks, this has been quite helpful, but I am guessing that the player-modded creations will not work? They were the main reason I bought the game in the first place for PC (I have PS3 version), and I want to know if it is worth me creating a dual-boot system (with XP) in order to run Oblivion on?

Yeah, ask the fanboys if vista is great, what answer do you expect

No vista is still broken and you can add 50 or 100 % on the demand of resources on your comp in exchange for what, gadgets, well terrific

What does that mean?

That means if a game requires 1 gb of ram to run on XP it will require 1,5 gb or 2 gb of ram on vista - true story

It's no like 1 gb of ram makes any difference when running a game is it?

So in short, vista is like driving your car around with bricks in the truck

Furthermore - Vista still has major compatibility issues, just check a look around any pc forum and count the number of threads called "vista and x-game"

Mods work fine on Vista. Dual-booting is not necessary.

nah, everything's fine on oblivion and any kind of vista. the game itself can be fairly crashy on any system - i went from xp32 -> vista64 -> win7/64, and it's been about the same on all of them.

lol I always think these threads are funny. The reason that different users have different results with Vista is because Vista was never the problem. The problem is something else in their setup (probably driver related). I run oblivion fine on vista and neverhad any problems with mods. I certainly would try it before you go to the trouble of creating a dual boot for 1 game.

I installed oblivion today and it works fine- so It is safe to say that user mods will work too! (fingers crossed)

W7/Vista work great for Oblivion (and, contrary to the haters beliefs, plenty of other games - in fact 7 does much better than Vista and manages memory better). Depending on the type of Oblivion you have can change what mods you can use though - if you have a digital copy from Direct2Drive then OBSE mods and OBSE are out (they modify the original executable for protection, OBSE needs to modify that code to work) - Steam changed it so OBSE works with their version by putting the protection in the launcher. DVD/CD installs should work with 100% of the mods (though the mods themselves may not always work right - thats the mods fault, not the computer/OS). I would suggest getting all of the Unofficial patch mods (Oblivion, Shivering Isles [if you have it], and the DLC patch mods [again, if you have the DLC])
