Hey, sorry for the somewhat funny quality of this question, you'll have to do your best not to laugh-

My mom asked me to get her a game, having just finished with Oblivion; She said she liked how you could walk around, explore find things and talk to people.

Based on that, what would you recommend?

(She is not the most agile person, so FPSs probably won't work.)

Fallout 3. It's made by the same developer, Bethesda, and more or less follows the same structure of the open world with a lot of people to talk to. It's a little bloody, but if she can handle that then I would say it's your most obvious choice. It is sort of an FPS, but it has a targeting system where it essentially pauses the battle and lets you target specific body parts at your own pace. Hope that helps...

She has played morrowind, and Fallout 3 is too post-apocalyptic/grungy for her. Are there any options, or should I try selling her on Fallout 3?

Maybe Gothic II/III. I especially liked II. It's a lot more unforgiving than Oblivion though (she will die a lot).

She might like Fable.

id say the expansion pack of oblivion shivering isles.... its better than the original game and long enough for an expansion, not fable or gothic, you cant create a female character, well morowind? nobody talks in that game its all text no sound in dialogues... as for fallout 3, yeah why not but its kinda violent i dont think your mother will like that...

Gothic 3

After you update it, it is as good as Oblivion and, in some regards, far better. Its definately a deeper RPG, with similiar open-world gameplay.

Fallout 3 is also good but Idunno, a mom might be turned off by the excessive gore.

yeah but the thing that makes them greater is to allow yo to play however you want... eg make a female character if you are female.

Not really Gothic has much lower character creation and pretty hidden main story quest.. what am saying is that it might turn kinda off..

In Fallout 3, you can turn off the gore by editing the .ini

and OP, do you have any mods for Oblivion? if you don't go to: www.tesnexus.com and click "top 100"

She can also try recent Bioware games like Knights of the old Republic, Jade Empire and Mass Effect. All these games has exploration, good story, player interaction and allows to play as a female character

If she liked to talk to people then maybe Mass Effect would be right up her alley.

Oi, Oi. While refuting everyone's suggestions IS a good way to rack up your post count, it's not very constructive otherwise. I have not seen you suggest any alternative yet. (SI expansion is hardly a suggestion, since anyone playing Oblivion should already know about it)

Just get her Unreal tournament 3.

J/k

Expansion Shivering Isles is a good idea if she hasen't played or heard of it. World of Warcraft is a good MMO but pretty addicting, has a monthly charge, etc. Fall out 3 does have the FPS part of it but its just toooooo good to miss if you've played and like Oblivion's engine.

No brother i dont try to offend anyone but how on earth those games got exploration? seriously is he trying to confuse the tc? But thats why people give high scores in games for features and elements that are not that greatly used in the games..... thats idiotic hype.. its like peter molyneux saying my game fable will have a huge free roam map and tons or exploration....NOT...i dont like being miss informed.... or to misinform someone else..

Ya I totally agree with you but just because a game is linear (Mass Effect) and not openended (Oblivion) does not mean there is a lack of exploration.

If you played Mass Effect and strictly did the storyline, you might get 10 hours out of it. If you played it and explored, did a bunch of the entertaining sidequests, and visited the occasional random planet, you can easily get 20+ hours out of it.

Thats more than I can say for Oblivion; while its a good game imo, the main storyline was easy, took six hours, and was finished by the time I was level five. I replayed it, did some sidequests and stuff, enjoyed it a lot more on the second and more playtrhroughs.

Oblivion is really the pinacle when it comes to exploration, me and my friends agreed the best thing we liked about that game was the exploration. I hope that one day games will place a powerful emphasis on it, it's so much funner then running around killing random crap.I have yet to play another game that's just as fun exploring, so I really can't help. :(

+1

They might not offer as much freedom as Oblivion, but they do have exploration. Personally, I found exploring the locations in those games more interesting than Oblivion, which was an endless cycle of caves and ruins and ZZZZ...
