Have a look at this:

The official minimum system requirements for Far Cry 2 are as follows:

  • 3.2GHz Pentium 4 or 2.66GHz Pentium D (looks like it takes advantage of multi-threading)
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 256MB GeForce 6800-series GPU or Radeon X1650

The game also requires Shader Model 3, so it won't work with ATI's older X800 GPUs. By comparison, the minimum specs officially required for Crysis are a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 and a Radeon 9800 Pro. However, a machine based on those specs would be reduced to a gibbering wreck by Crysis at anything approaching half-decent settings.

Meanwhile, the recommended system requirements for Far Cry 2 are as follows:

  • Core 2 Duo or Athlon 64 X2 5200+
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 512MB GeForce 8600 GTS or Radeon X1900
Do you think a 8600 will be good enough? Do you think your machine will be up to playing Far Cry 2?

Well, i think an 8600 would be able to run far cry 2 on high but not at resolutions more than 1280x768. Personally i have an 8600 gt and i reckon i will be able to run it on high but as i said before not at very high resolutions which isn't that much of a problem since my moniter isn't that big anyways and i'm fine playing at lower resolutions as long as the video quality is atleast half decent.

I'll be able to play it, but not without lag and dumbed-down visuals. :(

Sounds good. Yes, an 8600GTS will be more than enough. Keep in mind that recommended requirements never mean that's what you'll need to max the game out.

I look forward to maxing or at least coming close to maxing the game out, myself.

You should be able to play the game on medium-high settings with most on high judging by the recomended system requirements.

Core 2 Duo or Athlon 64 X2 5200+2GB of RAM

512MB GeForce 8600 GTS or Radeon X1900psychot1c

Cool, I got the same computer, only my card is 8600 GTS, not X1900.
I NEVER put graphics above gameplay, but if both be good then I'll give the game a very high score.

I heard Far Cry 2 is based on layers so it can scale down to lower-end systems perfectly. So a 8800GT should do fine in full HD?

Damnit! I have the x1600!

well, I planned to play this on my 360 in the first place, so no real loss there.

I'm sure both of our setups would be able to max it out. Atleast I would think so considering Far Cry 2 is being built from the ground for pc and it doesn't look quite as good as Crysis.

Im upgrading my P4 to an E7200 core 2 in a month to hold me over until the more mainstream nehalem processors become available so I should be good there. I have 2gb of ram. My only concern is my ATI 3850 which only has 256mb. I do only run games at 1024x768 because my monitor is so small, so I should be good I think. Idk, if it doesn't run well, I may end up getting this on 360. Will there be a demo?

I guess I could run it on the minimum requirements but it might be really slow then so I'll probably be forced to get me some more RAM and a new Graphics card

You might not quite be able to. The 8800GTS 320 isn't the most formidable of cards, and Far Cry 2 could very well be the next most performance intensive shooter after Crysis.

Yeah you could be right. I wasn't thinking of AA or AF or the fact that it has been months since crysis released.

I hope the developers keep their promise and make this thing run well on most PC's maybe not full setting but better than Crysis did.The code was suppose to be improved over crysis but still getting crysis like game play. Like what they are promising for Crysis 2.

The original Far Cry was spectacular, even on lower end PC's

We can hope.

I played crysis on high for everything with about 30-50fps.

So I am not worried, built me rig this year specifically to play Crysis, I had not bough a computer for 4 years!

Hmmm... Sounds a little too good to be true considering Crysis is a graphics hungry powerhouse, but I've actually never played any of the previous Far Cry games so what would I know. But if these are the real specs, I'll be able to play this no problem.

actually the 2400 is not meant for gaming and he will be able to manage low with some medium,my friend has taht card, and it runs crysis on low with some lag, but everything else in the system is good so just upgrade your acrd and your good to go.

I know mine will not, I need a new graphics card very soon. I have a single 3850, and it can't handle that game up to the resolution I want to play at.
