OK I didn't know where else to go

I searched everywhere but couldnt find the anwser.

I got a compaq V2000 laptop and a HP remote, it looks like this

I know this remote works because it came from a computer that basically has the SAME exact parts but the only thing is I never setup a remote before.

no I just want know how to append the remote to the laptop like I said it came from basically the same computer but different company. "technically HP and compaq is the same company"
