OK to buy games for PC even though you don't have a powerful PC?

I have a question which I think belongs here (If I'm wrong, please refer me to a certain board or topic). I was wondering if it's a good idea to buy games on PC such as Dragon's Age, Street Fighter 4, & Oblivion, even though I don't have a very powerful PC. Most games that are on that platform far surpass the so-called "superior versions" on consoles, as there are rarely any problems on there, & that you can even play them in Native 1080p or higher, etc.

I'm sure that I can play them on certain computers, such as cyber cafe's, etc. I plan to build myself a really good gaming PC desktop or to go for a really good gaming laptop soon.

all depends on what you mean by "not powerful" pc.. oblivion would probably run fine on a 6 series nvidia gpu and a decent single core p4 cpu.. all depends, gotta be more specific

While it's true that PC versions are often superior to their console counterparts, that's really only the case when you can max out a game or come close to maxing it out. If you have to run a game on minimum specs then the console version would have been the better buy, and if you get a crappy framerate then the console version would have also been a better buy.

It doesn't sound like your notebook is up to the task of running modern PC games. You could still buy them and install them, but the games would either refuse to start or at best give you really terrible performance.

Btw, if you are eventually interested in gaming on PC the desktop will provide much better bang for the buck. Gaming laptops are nice but aren't very upgradable and expensive.

That would depend on the power of your PC, the game's system requirements and how much you value graphics/smoothness.

I dont really see the point of buying new games simply because there is no rush, if you cannot run them. Why pay full price for a game you cant play for a year?

However, if you have the money and are getting a new rig within a couple months, I suppose it would be OK.

Still, no need to buy games now...wait til the last moment, there might be a bargain.

I wouldn't buy new games with that setup. You might be able to pull off Oblivion, but that's if you're lucky.krazyorange

yea, I had a P4 2.8 GHz (I think) with an Nivdia 6600GT and 1GB memory and I could barely run the game at 1024x768

man...to think I thought that looked good and it was only four years ago or so lol

ironically, that rig ran it better than my current due to compatability issues :P

Don't expect major games to run on a computer with integrated graphics: game developers do not program compatibility for them.

You need to have a PC with a separate slot for a graphics card. They aren't that expensive anymore. I purchased a 64-bit desktop with 8 GB RAM and a 9-Series nVidia graphics card for only $1,100.
