I am talking to people whose first MMORPG was Ultima Online, Everquest, Asheron's Call, or even early Dark Age of Camelot or Anarchy Online. If you are like me you got into the game when it was brand new, Ultima Online was my first and it hooked me like a fish. Went to EQ from there, and finally Dark Age of Camelot which was my last "love" until Mythic destroyed it. Since then I have yet to find an MMO that could replicate the same feeling I had playing those games. Not sure if it was just the newness of the whole idea, or the games in general. Just seems like the old ones were better in so many ways. My recent MMO trials included LOTRO and Tabula Rasa, both of which hooked me at first but I soon got bored with.

My personal opinion is back in the day if you didn't group, you didn't level, period. It was a chore to solo, now it seems to be the norm. I think it created more of a community, whereas today's MMO's seem like single player games with built in chat.

I used to play EverQuest.

I quit because I absolutely couldn't stand raiding.

I play City of Villains a lot, but the nerfs get the better of me. The game is solo friendly, but peoples will prefer to group. I would recommend it, not as much for what it did right, but for what it doesn't do wrong. But the nerfs...they really kill me.

I dabbled in UO but really got hooked on EQ for some reason, I think it was the way you really had no choice but to group after getting out of the starter zone to level consistently. And I am still in contact with people form those early days that I have never met in person.

No other game I have played since gives me the special thrill of the first run to Qeynos from Freeport.

I play Eve Online and just started Pirates of the Burning Sea both of which I like, Maybe for the change of pace from the generic Fantasy MMO.

My roots are early DAoC, and the only recent MMO to catch my interest was EVE. Its a really neat game, albeit a huge learning curve and it is definitely not for everyone, but give it a go if you want to try something different.

I'm with OldCodger on this one........ EQ was definately something. Late EQ & newer games are "simplified", it took away the fun of those Qeynos-Kelethin run.

Yea EQ was special, the only reason I gave it up for Daoc was the RvR aspect was great. The zones in EQ were epic to explore, and the death penalty was fierce. You were pretty scared to die in some areas.

Pre-TOA Daoc still holds the title as the best for me, I am hoping Warhammer matches up to it with RvR. The 3 sided RvR thing seems like a no brainer to me for a successful MMO, no one I know of has even tried it since Daoc.

My first big MMO, after mudds of course, was Asheron's Call. I have played many other MMOs since but none of them, with the exception of EVE, has given players so much control over how the game world evolved. If I could find another MMO along those lines I'd be more than happy to give it a shot.

I played the LOTRO beta for eight months. It was a lot of fun beta testing for Codemasters, the community was fantastic and ever since I read The Hobbit for the first time, being able to adventure in Middle-Earth has been my little fantasy. It only took me few months to get bored after release though. It might be simply because I played the game for 8 months or maybe I just found playing a broken version and giving feedback more fun.

EVE Online is the best bet at the moment. There isn't really anything like it.

Nope. I was into Everquest and UO for awhile. I haven't played an MMO that's got it quite right since either of those.

The closest thing I've found to the old Everquest that I loved is Vanguard, I just couldn't put up with the crappy engine.
