I know this is not a high end Sound Card but I don't want to spend 150$ for a sound card.

Do you recommend me to upgrade to this card ?? I'm using an AC97 onboard at the moment ..

thx

Yeah, deffinately go for it if you're looking at a budget sound card.  The beauty with sound cards is you dont have to spend $150 dollars to get a good one anymore, you can drop less and get great quality.  For the price you will get some awesome crisp sounds from that card, what kind of speakers do you have?

i agree, you should definitely get a sound card which isnt onboard. it takes some load off the mobo and it will probably sound better and go faster too.

The Audigy SE is nice... But does not the X-Fi have some reasnable priced models? They would be a far better choice if you ask me...

Like this $45.99 Xtreme Audio version... I'd rather that over onboard or Audigy anyday... The Audigy is wonderful I had an Audigy OEM (bout the same as the SE) until I upgraded to the X-Fi and I would say the X-Fi is way superior...

I've had the audigy 2 and then got the Xfi Xtreme Gamer and there is a noticable difference in sound quality both in and out of games so try and get an X-fi if not the best one ;)

I agree with the others.  I use X-Fi Platinum, but at USD$180, it may not seem for you.  The X-Fi series seem extremely stable.  I tend to find a lot of bugs in things that often go unnoticed and I have yet to find a bug with my X-Fi Platinum.

View the product specifications with these:

X-Fi Xtreme Audio

X-Fi Platinum

X-Fi Platinum has much more to it and I like the console thing a lot.  It has an equalizer (from which Xtreme Audio doesn't seem to have).  X-Fi Xtreme Music does have this console thing (and, supposedly) the equalizer.  The X-Fi Platinum seems to have only the drive bay as an extra element.  The XtremeMusic thing doesn't have this drive bay but is otherwise identical and costs $50 less.  I suggest using the Xtreme Music version instead.

I have an audigy se (figured there's not much sense getting anything more expensive since I'm using a cheap old set of stereo speakers atm) I can definately recommend it. The muffled sound I was attributing to those old speakers disappeared (was using ac97 too) and everything just sounds a lot better. However, if you do have a good speaker set then definately go with an x-fi.

Just get the audigy SE. It's more fully functional (as opposed to a watered down x-fi), and while the x-fi will sound better, (i used to have an audigy SE as well.) both are great cards. Coming from integrated motherboard audio, anything will be great.

So the Xtreme Music is better than the Xtreme gamer?
