From my undestanding, all you need for OnLive is a screen putting out video. and an internet connection

you apparently can get 480p quality gaming with a 1. 5Mbps connection, HD at 4Mbps or more.

the point of netbooks is, well they use the net as a heavy selling point. If you've got a good speed connection near you, or in your home, apparently you can game like people with serious rigs.

Say you have a netbook, and Crysis is on this, you can play Crysis (if they make a 640x480 resolution for it, does Crysis have 480p?)

I've even heard reports of live tests of Crysis on MacBook Airs.

they could even subsidize netbooks, coming free with a yearly Onlive subscription. Anyone trying the open summer beta?

I think people like MS, and other big computer companies might be upset if OnLive takes off and netbooks benefit from it be successful. then netbooks could add into their marketing not just portability, but serious gaming on the go in a small package.

netbooks are almost in the throw away money territory, with $200 netbooks. if netbook makers like Acer market their netbooks with games like WOW, Crysis, Orange Box for $200 to $300, well then that would take a lot of sales away from high end PCs and laptops.

I agree that onlive might do well to sponsor a netbook. However there are several very good threads on this forum that discuss the problems with onlive and why you won't be playing crysis on your netbook. The latency will be intolerable. the claims onlive has made in this area are simply not possible. Also how many people would pay for an onlive version of crysis plus a user fee to play an awesome looking game at a poor resolution? Also, the processing still has to be done by someone and you will pay for it one way or another if you don't pay up front for a high end pc. Many of the people onlive would target are lower income players who are less likely to have fast internet solutions. The truth of the matter is that if you were playing at home, then onlive makes no sense versus a console played on a tv at the same or better resolution and cheaper cost.

I'm sure OnLive could do miracles, for netbooks and desktops and everything. I doubt anyone is disputing its potential. The two important things are;

- how much will it cost?

- how will it perform?

I don't think high end PCs and laptops sales will be even scratched by OnLive. I bet the only ones who will use such a service are casual gamers.

By the way, how exactly are they going to cover the price of the computers they're using to offer this service?

"A" netbook is a bit too generic.

i'd think it could do muc hmore for netbooks than desktops. desktop sales fell 23% last year, netbooks and cheap laptops are really taking off.

especially if OnLive strikes a deal with a phone company like AT&T to sell a subsidized netbook with a 3G USB adaptor, one year onlive service for like $200.

Yes. It could run. Most netbooks come with 1GB RAM, decent mobile video cards that share memory with the system RAM, windos XP, and a 1.6GHz CPU

although its expected netbooks this year or next will dip into the territory of having 2.0Ghz CPUs and 2GBs RAM, using W7
