It's not really more secure anymore. If you run the NoScript addon that helps a ton, but otherwise viruses and such are going in via vulnerabilities that hit IE and FF3 equally.Makari

I wouldn't say that, IE still holds a vast majority of the market, therefore people are going to devote more time to developing malicious security holes in IE before Firefox.

And with NoScript, Firefox will still out on top when it comes to security.

I use both Firefox and IE. I can't speak for the others. I despise IE, it's slow and clunky and just an overall poorly designed browser. I'm forced to use it at work and it's an exercise it patience to not put my fist through the screen. At home I use Firefox. It's fast and I've got it customized exactly how I like it.

I use FF3 on my gaming rig and Safari on my portable. Safari on a Mac is rock solid and lightning fast, but on Windows it majorly sucks....

I do a fair amount of AV work, and 99% of the malware that's hitting people's computers right now are hitting IE and FF alike. And they're starting to use methods that MBAM won't even try to see, either. But yeah, NoScript helps a lot - it just sucks that 95% of the FF3 users won't use it. :)

Windows: Google Chrome (I'm fond of the underlying separate process architecture, which keeps each tab sandboxed and reduces the chance that one bad tab will bring the whole thing down. However, animated .GIF playback sucks and right-click options are disturbingly lacking.) OS X: Opera (Since OS X keeps the menu bar at the top, Opera looks less cluttered as a result. It's very robust, faster than Safari and most other browsers for that matter, and is generally a great browser, though it lacks Firefox's addons. Then again, I don't need addons.) Windows Mobile: Opera Mobile 9.5 (Put this browser on a VGA-screened Windows Mobile device and you'll have an Internet tablet that gives the iPhone and iPod touch some serious competition. While Safari Mobile still has a bit of an edge regarding the interface and general polish, Opera Mobile 9.5 at least allows you to highlight/cut/copy/paste/overwrite and download files, among other things. You can even use a Flash Lite plugin with it, though your typical PDA/smartphone CPU will probably be quickly bogged down by the bloat of Flash.)

I use FF3. It's good speed, stability and very customizable. However I think the poll would be inaccurate. The majority of gamespot users (Especially the ones PC Hardware Forum) know whats good and bad about computers. They know which apps are good/bad, and many people here have built there own computers. I know that alot of people at my school have no idea what their computer specs are, and probably have never heard of Firefox. Due to that, I think the majority of users would be on IE.

I use IE 8. I don't see the need to install another browser that does the same thing and Firefox looks a bit ugly.

Google chrome makes me nervous and cautious as in the contract you accept with it, it says when you use googles' Chrome browser, the contract says that anything you make/do with chrome is then owned by google. I'm not sure exactly what that could mean for many users, but its not good, so i don't use it. It is a great web browsing browser for a netbook tho.LibertySaint
That just means they can sell all the information they gather from your favorites and search history, etc. If you don't mind being prostituted by google then I guess it's OK... but I'd rather do the pimping 8)

Are you sure it still actually says that? I probably said it before in this thread, but I remember Google's Chrome team initially stuck in a copy-paste of the generic Google EULA, figuring that nobody really cared about those things. After some people complained about what you're complaining about, they changed it... but that was literally last year.

Okay. Quoting myself, but I just looked into Chrome's TOS: [quote="Chrome EULA"]10. Content license from you 10.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

So yeah. They did change this literally a few weeks after Chrome launched. It's been this way for months. :)

I now have to amend my prior post: With the release of the Safari 4 Beta, I now use it on OS X as my primary browser due to speed and integration, and am in the middle of transitioning to it on Windows as I bring over all my Google Chrome bookmarks. It's come a LONG way from the developer preview on the Windows side of things, that's for sure.

Firefox is far superior to all other browsers in almost every respect, except for speed and reliability. Safari, K-Meleon, and Google Chrome take the cake in those categories.

Google Chrome for me. It is quite basic, simple, and faster than the other web browswers. I just got sick and tired with all the pointless buttons and applications that Firefox and IE had.

Best part of Google Chrome is the Incognito Window.

New updates on my end: -For Windows, I still prefer Chrome. Safari 4's habit of adding all the other Apple stuff annoyed me, as it just doesn't mesh in a Windows environment. (But at least Safari 4 itself looks like a Windows app-unlike the mess that is iTunes.) -When you bring a Tablet PC into the equation, though, I'm forced to use Firefox because it's the only desktop-class browser with decent grab-and-drag functionality, albeit through an add-on. I don't like the fact that I have to download a bunch of add-ons to get Firefox working the way I want it to, nor do I like its penchant for eating up my RAM, but once everything's configured, it's not too shabby. It very badly needs fit-to-width like Opera and incognito/InPrivate windows like Chrome and IE8, though, not to mention Chrome's sandboxed architecture. -Safari 4 would be my browser of choice on OS X after being coupled with ClickToFlash, but being that my only OS X machine is a nine-year-old PowerBook G3 with only 256 MB of RAM, it still seems to thrash the hard drive more than Opera 10 Beta, or even iCab 4 for that matter (the latter being WebKit-based just like Safari, but with a different interface). Perhaps it's all I would use on a faster OS X setup, but not in this case (at least until I can justify paying 60+ US$ to max the thing out to 1 GB of RAM, which I don't feel is worth it).

Chrome. For some stuff I use FF still, at work I have to use IE due to site incompatibility, but I've never had stability issues with Chrome and its speed and design are top notch. Do I miss add-ons? Yes, but Chrome's simplicity makes up for them.

I'm using Google Chrome because it's a little faster than IE8, Chrome has a Most Visited page when you start it up, and my PC doesn't chrash when I open up a new window/tab.

I'd have to say Firefox is my fav, but it's been locking up on me over the past few months, especially when streaming video from sites like youtube and vimeo. Been using Opera much more and having no problems at all. I think my RSS feeds might be hanging my Firefox up, not sure.

Watch it though, having all enabled at once will slow down Firefox a LOT. But yeah, I'd recommend all of the above, and these WOT (web of trust), a little like Norton Site Advisor but free Yet Another Smooth Scrolling, a fantastic add-on, which transforms the juddery scrolling into a smooth sensation. I cannot live without thius add-on, it is by far my favourite.
