Hi all! I'm considering getting a new keyboard and came across the Logitech G110 with it's back-lit keys and other function programmable keys it looks like a good choice. I figure there has to be a few people out there that have actually used one and wanted to get any opinions on it I could find before finalizing my choice. Any opinions are appreciated be they good or bad! Thanks everyone!

If you want the best keyboard for under $200, you need look no farther than the IBM model M:

And yes I am dead serious. Logitech, Microsoft, Saitek...all the keyboards by those brands are made with membranes. Mechanical keyboards are where the real quality is at, and for that you either have to buy one off a much less known brand or find some older keyboards. The model M is a good choice because it's a really high quality mechanical keyboard and can be found for cheap. Furthermore, the things are practically indestructible. A lot of them are 20+ years old and still work fine. You can even toss them in the dishwasher to clean them if you want. You also get that heavenly clickaclack sound when you type and the wonderful tactile feedback that you can't find from a keyboard that you get at best buy.

The only downsides are that when you type it sounds like you're firing a machine gun (although some would see that as a plus), there's no windows key, and the board itself is ugly as hell. However, like I said, there are other mechanical keyboards out there if you look around but they'll be more expensive on account of not being relics from the 1980s and early 90s.

It's not, you can pick up a Filco for $140, a Das for $130 or a Deck for $160, pretty much every mechanical keyboard can be had for under $200. ABS M1 and Unicomp are good budget alternatives.

If you want a good backlit keyboard that one does look nice, but a little more snazzy the G15 is 90$.. or you could get the saitek cyborg, i like it mostly but alot of people dont trust saitek

Can't say I've used the other keyboards, but used Model Ms like the 1391401 pictured above can be had for US$35 shipped or even less-sometimes under $5 if you find one at a thrift store. That's probably why they're so popular for mechanical keyswitch boards-they can be found used for dirt cheap. (Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be packing one, much less two.) I've wondered what the boards with Topre capacitive keyswitches and those Maltron ergonomic boards feel like, but that's well over $200 easily. That said, I got a first-gen Logitech G15 used for $4 not too long ago. Cheap rubber dome feel, and yet some people are charging up to $500 for these boards. I'm tempted to sell it off (possibly along with my first-gen G5 mouse) and get a G13 instead-that way, I get all the neat little frills, but I get to keep my Model M on my desk as a REAL keyboard. (On the other hand, it's my only USB board and I have no PS/2-to-USB converters, much less ones that will handle a Model M's power draw.) I honestly can't imagine the G110 being too different.

Yeah, I meant to say $100. Really there's other good keyboards under $100 as well, but I'm a fan of the model M (although granted much of that could be due to nostalgia :P )

the best (cheap) gaming keyboard that I have found/used is a z-board. They have frequent updates for the mods and great layout.

The keyboard i'm using now looks a lot like that Model M from IBM. It's the same keyboard i've been using since the old 386 CPUs were the big thing. I wouldn't even be considering a change but after all these years the keys are beginning to fail. I didn't think they still made keyboards like this anymore actually. I've never had much use for the Windows keys and could easily do without them. Now I think i'll have to look into these mechanical keyboards and see what's out there. If I don't find one I like I may still go with G110.

I've grown quite fond of my G15 (second gen), although I wouldn't have paid any more than the $40 I got it for. Screen is nice with Sirreal's panel for keeping an eye on temperatures, cpu use, memory, and network usage. It's not essential, but it's cool.

I have the G110 and its good but it has its problems, the most annoying one being when i switch the computer on the backlights don't light so i have to manually unplug it then plug it back in, and looking on the logitech forums/expert help, there seems to be no fix for this.
