optimal page file size

alright so i was wondering what is the optimal page file size for 2 gigs of ram and a hdd of 250gigs (if the hdd matters, i have 173 gigs of free space). Im also wondering what it really affects and if ill see any performance boost or anything of the like. Thanks in advance.

You can have Windows handle the page file size automatically for you - but if you want to set one for yourself, then around double the size of your total RAM - so around 4gb will be good.

I have 2GBs of RAM and I set the paging file to 2048MBs for initial and maximum size.

No need to set a huge paging file, reliance on virtual memory is not a good thing.. since it's so much slower than RAM. Plus you don't need a large paging file when you have a good amount of RAM.

alright, thanks, what are the effects of having the appropriate page file size? Any chance i get better performance in games?

Dude that is frikin sick. Put the page filing at 100k gigs and tell us what happens rofl.

Um. I was being serious. Anyway, I usually set mine like 1 GIG more than it currently is (1GB of patriot memory). I don't know why, but that is how I roll.
