Hi all,

Wanted to pick your brains about a potential upgrade I am considering. I don't expect this is anything to drool over but some advice would be great.

Currently running:

Intel E8500 3.16 dual core

3.2GB RAM

ATI 4850 1.9GB (so SRTEST says)

2.5TB HDD

------------------------------------------------

So upgrade wise would it be smarter to opt for say a new rig (doubtful) or double up on the CPU and GPU (preferable)?

Assuming I am doubling up with 2x4850 and 2 CPU's it seems that I would need a motherboard like this...

http://www.dabs.com/products/tyan-2x-s1366-intel-5500-ddr3-pcie-7BJB.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product+search&utm_content=Q200

So I could then just buy another dual core processor and another 4850?

Stupid question: If I was to double up on processors and found an exact match would I really be getting 6.32Ghz? Seems a tad unrealistic but I have been out of the upgrade game for a while now. Thanks in advance for the replies!

The first question that comes to mind is, "Why are you upgrading?" Knowing what programs you want to run tells us which parts of your system are being taxed the heaviest, allowing us to provide better advice. :)

Thats a socket 1366 mobo, your CPU is socket 775, it won't fit.

You basically need a new CPU and Mobo, take a look at the i5 2500k and Gigabyte z68 board.

im upgrading because ive had this set up for a few years now and tbh the cpu is letting me down on playing anything on max settings.

i wonder if there is a 775 socket mobo that offers 2 cpu/gpu. ive googled it and theyre difficult to find.

ultimately i get that im sacrificing the motherboard, i just wanted to keep the cpu for good use.

i will take a look at those other ones you suggested, thanks.

You could also buy a new HSF, and OC the CPU, it should be able to do a good job for most games, except the newish quad-core games.
