Origin offers game that people actually want, where as Steam does offer a larger array of games but they are not up to par as Origins list of games.

Origin >> Steam and oh just because Valve made overrated games like CS, L4D, and Portal doesn't make their service better.

Yep greater at everything except game library size, game library quality, game prices, community size, in-game overlay, specials, management, and parent company.

Funny how you say community size, Steam has been out since 2004. I'd hope the community would be bigger seeing that its been out for that long. Steam lowers the price on games a lot, yeah. But really, who wants to play stuff like this http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/16720/.

Steam throws a lot of stuff like that in your face, the games people actually want to play don't get price drops that actually matter. When origin does a special its 50% off on EVERYTHING, not only some games that Valve wants to sell.

EA has a way more money than Valve btw.

And I should care that Steam has been around longer because...? It has the community size, Origin doesn't that's all that matters. I will even bet that Steam's community now will still be larger than Origin's in 8 years. "The games people actually want to play don't get price drops that actually matter" Care to expand on that a little or are you making sweeping generalizations? 95% of the games I've played and beaten on my Steam list were gotten at 50, 75, or 80% off during a Steam sale, and I greatly enjoyed every second of playing them. And what games does EA have that Steam doesn't that are worth having? Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect? Both shells of once great franchises after EA got to squeeze the life and profits out of them completely. That last point is pretty much completely irrelevant when Steam still holds a vast vast majority of the digital distribution market share.

EA said they were never going to do crazy sales like you see on Steam.... Sometimes you can get 80% off or more. Origin constantly crashes and hardly EVER has sales. I only use it reluctantly for BF3.

I'm sure you know this thread is as pointless as one that would be Steam>Origin, nothing worth mentioning would come out of such a thread, both from the TC and the people responding, as you noticed.

Get a stable PC or learn to overclock better, pro tip.

With games like MoH Warfighter, NFS Most Wanted, Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 being exclusive to Origin I see no reason as to why Origin won't become the industry standard for PC. The transition is already underway, SWTOR and BF3 kicked started the change, trust me. EA makes games people want way more than Valve does.

Those games aren't exclusive to Origin, they're exclusive to every DD service not called Steam.

origin only exists because you are forced to use it if you want to play some of EAs most popular games otherwise if it wasnt pushed on us we all would be wondering what Origin is.

Meh

Gog owns them both

Hilarious to watch fanboys argue about what flavor DRM they want up their rectums.

Low-grade feebs.

ZombieKiller7

Look at that,Zombie post I fully agree with...

Yeah,GoG is the only DD service I can fully support, due to their anti-DRM policy, and I REALLY hope they can manage to expand more in the future, and become influential enough to easily provide us with DRM-free new releases...

By all I take it you mean the few Steam maniacs, that know there's a world out there, outside Steam, Origin (EADM) was quite popular before you (personally and in general) found out about its existence with BF 3.

Steam maniac? I dont even like steam Id rather own a CD. I started using steam when I noticed they had good sales and rarely take advantage of them.

I do not trust origin on my PC and is why I will NEVER install it.

If it's about trusting software on your PC, I have bad news, Steam gathers more information from your PC than Origin. You don't agree/disagree to have Steam monitoring your entire PC (games, hardware, network and 3rd party applications that are in no way related to games), you only agree/disagree to make "some" of them public. It was and still is, just hypocrisy and denial (Origin wouldn't be popular ever because I don't use it for anything but games I'm forced to which is exactly...Steam).

The first thing that I think of when Origin comes to mind is being forced onto a pinball machine.

OP is a genius... Steam is crap...

I mean, really, who wants to buy games at a discount anyway?

Why would I buy the ENTIRE GTA franchise (from GTA1 to GTAIV Stories) for 10$?

Why should I buy Company of Heroes with all expansions for 10$? Who the heck wants to play Just Cause 2 for 7$, or Borderlands GOTY edition for 12$?

Who in his right mind would buy a complete catalogue of a company for 20% of the price?

Who wants that crap when you can play The Sims???

Also, Steam is crappy because it lets you keep your games library forever ( even if you don't play it at all ), but on the other hand Origin revokes your game license after a year if you don't play it, because they realize you don't want to play that particular game anyway and they're actually doing you a favor.

Yeah, Steam is crap...

I am smart.....everyone else be stupid

Is that what you're saying? because what you just wrote here is nonsense.

1) They do not revoke anything, ever. (it was in the TOS since EADM was created, never happened)
2) They "might" remove your account if in 2 years you don't, ever, use your EA account, be it on one of their forums or just logging in on Origin once. (it is in their TOS, never happened yet and just like before, it might never happen - it's just their way of "your account can and will be disabled at any time" that Steam uses)

I have a hard time believing a gamer wouldn't ever use the account of one of the important digital platforms even once in 2 years

What reason does a company have to take away the game I bought with my money? ever? What sane reason is there to delete a license of a game I potentially didn't play for a year? Have you never had a classic game you enjoyed and played 10 years ago , then suddenly decided to take it out of the closet (or: Digital Games Library) where you put it 10 years ago, and play it now? Do you suggest that one should go through her/his games library, play all games for a few seconds every year just to make sure they don't get deleted? Now that's dumb.

Obvious troll thread is obvious. Origin is dirt and I'd rather flush my money down a big toilet than give it to EA. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play my copy of CoH that I bought for 2 euros off Steam...

But your initial argument was, let me quote:

"Origin >> Steam"

Are we still comparing these two? Or has the discussion moved on to a different topic (The pros/cons of digital distribution)?

Stay on topic: which of those two (Origin, Steam) is the LESSER EVIL? Please answer :)

Yes, we are still comparing. I only ventured off topic there to point out 1 part of steam everyone ignores yet hates origin for.

Yep that would be dumb, as much as not understanding what words like "never happened" and "was" mean, if by the time you reach this part you understood their meaning then, we can move on because it isn't in their TOS, only number 2, which is also just to "cover their arses" in case something happens, not law, Steam doesn't even give you a time limit if we go at it literally, they can disable your account in the next two minutes without having to explain themselves to you. As for your next comment, they're both "evil".

Actually EA has no money, as they had huge losses for three years straight before finally making profit last year.

Origin >>>>>>>> Steam

... because I find this goofy cache folder that was lost and I had to redownload the entire bf3! Brilliant, whilst I had never reinstalled tf2 for 2 years+ after moving the file from different harddrives, different os installs, and motherboard swap.

oh just because Valve made overrated games like CS, L4D, and Portal doesn't make their service better.

Zlychop

How could you even think for one second that CS is overrated. It defined a genre and is/was the biggest online game ever!

Valve care more about customers and make better games, I'd rather give them money.

Origin offers game that people actually want, where as Steam does offer a larger array of games but they are not up to par as Origins list of games.

Origin >> Steam and oh just because Valve made overrated games like CS, L4D, and Portal doesn't make their service better.

[QUOTE="General_X"]Yep greater at everything except game library size, game library quality, game prices, community size, in-game overlay, specials, management, and parent company.Zlychop

EA has a way more money than Valve btw.

ok because steam puts a crappy game on sell for a buck and a queater= bad company? NO, EVERYGAME gets a chance to be the highlight of the day.

i have no clue about the community size BUT size can't grow because of time... 2: steam dominates pc sales, so i say it's pretty big.

origin will throw 50% sale once in the blue moon... with steam one game is always one sale 50-75%. Then 2 games midweeek sale, Then atleast once a month a publishers sale WHERE everything is 50+++% off. Don't get me started on the holidays...

ea has more money lol. Don't mean they make good choices. Ea has been falling for years...

Uhm, who honestly cares?

I think there is one thing we can all agree on and that is: everything is better than that PoS, GFWL. Amirite or amirite?

EA said they were never going to do crazy sales like you see on Steam.... Sometimes you can get 80% off or more. Origin constantly crashes and hardly EVER has sales. I only use it reluctantly for BF3.
