I have an HP computer with these specs (I used CPU-Z to find them out):

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700, supposed to run at 2.66 GHz

an ASUSTeK Benicia motherboard with Intel P35 chipset and 82801 southbridge

and an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

Is there any way I can overclock it without changing my cooling system or motherboard, or doing something dangerous with the voltage? Right now i think the processor runs at 6X, what setting should i increase that to get the best, most stable setting possible without frying my computer.

Just need to the best I can do without upgrading any hardware yet.

Thanks

ok, in your computers bios locate where your cpu info is and raise the fsb 5-10mhz at a time reboot and make sure everything works, then repeat. or you can try the same thing in ntunes

Since you use a GF card I guess you could just unlock the overclocking in the driver.. You can even tell that one too do the overcloking itself..

Aslong as you dont change voltage it shouldnt be any danger at all. (If you dont turn of the GPU fan for some reason)

I got that tool open, but I don't know how far I should go. My motherboard's pretty crappy, it won't even let me jump me processor that much, and everything is stock. Any suggestions how far I should take it--without a mini-Chernobyl in my room?

Right now my core clock is set to 475 MHz

memory clock also to 475 MHz

and the shader clock to 950 MHz

^link to the pc, if I didn't say it already, everything is stock and I'd like to keep it that way for the time being.

Thanks again for answering my questions, I'm really new to this.
