I have a 32" Samsung and I'm looking to upgrade to better things. I've been looking for ages and I'm still confused. I wish I'd never started to read online reviews for HDTV'S because all they do is make you think you're wasting your money on a piece of crap. Maybe I expect perfection because they cost so much money. The £1000 I have for a new tv could buy me a PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii with over £100 change!

I have decided on either the Panasonic Viera TH-42PX70PED or the Samsung LE40F71BX.

The Panasonic only has screen resolution of 1024x768 yet it can still perform 1080p due to chips inside the tv. Does anyone know how this will compare to a true 1080p tv? If any of you own this tv or have seen it in action I would love to hear your thoughts. The Panasonic has freeview but can only take "1080p" over HDMI.

The Samsung costs more but is a true 1080p tv and it can also take 1080p over component and VGA. This would be excellent for my 360 and HD-DVD add on. One major let down of the Samsung is the speakers. They are hidden and the sound is reflected off of aluminium panels behind the tv. The sound is supposed to be very tinny. Again, if you have this tv or have seen it in action I'd like to hear your opinion.

Which tv would you buy or do you know of a better HDTV that is around the same price and is capable of 1080p?

How about a Samsung Plasma PS50Q7HD for around 900 at pricegrabber.uk?  It has a 1366x768 resolution.  So at least it has all the pixels for 720p.  And still a 10,000:1 contrast ratio.  Just google PS50Q7HD you can find alot of great reviews.

Thanks for the suggestion. It doesn't do 1080p though so I wouldn't buy it. I'm not too bothered about the size. It's the sound and quality of the picture that's important.

I think I'll go with the Samsung LCD.

Thanks again.
