How many partitions can you have on one hard drive?

If we assume multiple OSes and a Multi-Boot option to start, practically unlimited on a large enough hard drive, but Windows has a 24 drive name limit (the letter "Z"), and the first two, A & B, must be left off because they are reserved for floppy drives.

Um, I think as many as you want. I dual boot Windows XP and linux on two of my computers-- I think that is about four or five partitions on each hard drive, since I use separate partitions for the linux swap and stuff. I know of some people who have installed five or more operating systems on one hard drive-- you certainly could do it if you wanted. There is a nice program called Norton Partition Magic that you can use to manage partitions on your hard drive. There are some free alternatives, but Partition Magic seems to be the best.

As many as you want but Windows will only recognize 24 of them, as Kiwi said.
