I am planning to build my first computer and just want to be sure that I have the correct list of things that I need for it.

Processor

Motherboard

Ram

Hard Drive

Graphics Card

Case

Power Servicing Unit

Keyboard + Mouse

Also do you have to be a tech genius to overclock a processor and or a graphics card? Some people suggested that I buy a fan, is it necessary? Can anyone also recommend a good Canadian website from which I can purchase all this.

Also I am on a tight budget and there is one question that nobody has yet answered for me. Is it worth to upgrade my CRT monitor to an LCD, because from what I read the main disadvantage of a CRT is their size? I also heard that CRT monitors become worse as they age, is their anyway to test the quality of mine?

I cant help you with the overclocking part, but what exactly is a power servicing unit? you need a power supply unit, but other than that, you do have all the required parts. However, remember this, I had to learn it the hard way, make sure that all your parts are compatible with eachother. make sure that you buy memory that is on the motherboard's supported memory list. If it isn't, try to find your memory manufacturer and see if your motherboard is supported.

About the LCD monitors, they are pretty cool, but they, like all physical things get bad as they get older. CRT monitors are good if you like them. wait until the day after thanksgiving. also known as black and blue friday

You might want a Power Supply Unit. Don't know too many inanimate objects that can service power.

Anyways:

Canada:
Tiger Direct
Canada Computers
Pc Canada
Ncix
Dangeo

you should be able to overclock from the bios with most motherboards these days, if not things could get ugly jumper cable style.  they say the tuniq tower is a good heatsink/fan for a CPU, but its a tad large
