8 is a perfect score for you. Nice balanced rig.

DDR4 offers very little gain and a 4790K would be the same thing as a 6700K. It is future proof somewhat so I guess it cancels out the higher price tag for the same performance.

@Juub1990: DDR4 will come in handy later down the road. I went with DDR2 when DDR3 was first available, and I just ended up having to upgrade to DDR3 a couple of years later. Getting a new motherboard and moving to DDR3 RAM gave me at least double the performance in games..

As for your build, TC, 8 seems to be about the right score. 3-way SLI and a better CPU would push the score to 10, but SLI is a bad option at the moment, since Pascal and Polaris are right around the corner. And, a better CPU won't be needed for quite some time, so a better CPU would just be expensive fluff...

Yeah that's why I said his build is somewhat future proof but there is no telling when DDR4 will really start to make a difference. It might be 3-4 years from now at which point his build will still be pretty good but the DDR4 might not make any difference.

For now at least DDR3 seems like a very viable option and I have the feeling DDR4 will not start to show its absolute benefits until 3 years at least.

@Juub1990: You're probably right, especially with consoles holding back most games. But, the occasional exclusive that pushes the bounderies may see a jump sooner. I know that the polygon counts in many Star Citizen ships are insane, which affects GPU performance, but the destruction and physics engines are likely complex, as well. I'm not saying that they will tax DDR3 to it's limits, but it's possible.

Also, I just noticed that your PC is a beast. I'm waiting for Zen before I build a new system. This old PC that I have now can max almost anything at 1080p/60hz, which are the specs of the HDTV that I use as a monitor.

It has a 4GHz Phenom II X4 and a 1.19 GHz HD7950 (4 TFLOPS). The CPU maxes out at just 40C during Prime95 stress tests, so I can push it much further, but the main performance jump comes from overclocking the IMC in the CPU, since that is the CPU's weakest point. I could also push the IMC and RAM further, but it's plenty enough for now. I have the IMC at 3GHz (+50%), and the DDR3 RAM it controls is at 1525MHz (7-7-7-19-26-1t), which are awesome numbers for a Phenom II memory controller. I'll push everything higher in the near future, but I just haven't needed to yet. I'm guessing it'll end up at 4.4GHz with a 3.2GHz IMC controlling RAM at 1600MHz w/ lower timings.

Unable to rate due to incomplete list, for example that build paired with ultra cheap <20 inch sub 1080p display = waste of money

Furthermore, personally I can only give you a rate of max 7 out of 10 if the display stuck at standard 16:9 1080p, as 1080p is console peasant territory.

@napo_sp: The display isn't part of the PC, though. For instance, the 42" HDTV on my desk is not part of my PC. It is merely the display that my PC is hooked to.

Also, once you get to 1080p, increasing the refresh rate beyond 60Hz begins to be more important than resolution, IMO. For PC gaming, I would rather have a 120+Hz 1080p display than a 60Hz 2k display.

but display is an integral part of computing experience so I can't rate someone's gaming pc if he didn't list his display.

@napo_sp: Nothing wrong with that. I just didn't want TC to feel shitty about part of his new setup. But, judging by the amount of money that he spent on those parts, I'm sure that he would have no problem getting a better display if he wanted to. I wonder how much better the image truly is on the new HDR displays?

Depends on what you're aiming to do with it, solely for gaming or editing as well?
