anyone know of any decent desks designed specifically for gaming? like something that has hooks to hang your headset on, speaker stands, and a wide desk area to make using a large mousepad and such easy? also, enough area to support multiple monitors and cable management would be great.

all i can find really is this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8EN8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

but, it doesnt look that great IMO. any suggestions?

That thing looks ridiculous. a normal office grade desk should be fine. can you not have hooks on a wall or?

damn... can't stress enough how awful that is. a gaming desk? new concept to me... outside of handcrafted ones.

Hey TC

I went with a desk similar to this one.

Mine is 1.8m by 1.8m (sides)

They are great because they give you lots of room for speakers, peripherals, case etc.

If you have a 5.1 surround system they are perfect because you put the rear speakers on the end of each side and it gives you that surround sound without having cables around the room.

I'm at work right now but if you want I can take a photo of my home setup to show you how everything has it's place. (just PM me).

that desk looks pretty nice. worried that i would have issues attaching my dual display mounts though

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VHN8DPI/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1JV95TU0041V3

i have 2 27" monitors and have found that pretty much no desk is large enough if i dont use that mount. plus the flexibility of it is just great.

Mount should fit but you have to look and see if the monitors are too close to you.

If not then you need a long desk which has a lot of depth.

It took me months to find the one that suited me the best. You actually have to go to shops and sit down on them.

The desk you linked is bad, there's no room and it looks cramped.

That curved desk above is also bad, there is barely any room for your mouse and keyboard.

Just get a long flat desk.

Go to Sweden and ask them to make you furniture, or Ikea, whichever is more convenient.

That's an alright setup, but I would put your pc off your desk. It takes up way too much space and the noise would bother me. Same thing for the PS4. I personally put mine in the closet. Also you need aderall for quick access on the side for when you are tryharding.

I would never get a curved desk though, not enough room for mouse and keyboard.

In the closet means it could overheat. (especially with Australian Summers, it gets to easy 40 degrees where I live). The sound doesn't bother me since when I play games I have the speakers on loud so can't hear the PC.

Keyboard and mouse, heaps of room... I have one of those long mousepads as you can see in the pic.

I spent time looking for a good desk years ago. No luck. My wife decided to have one custom-built. Solid wood with a thin, clear polyurethane finish makes a mouse pad unnecessary. I can feel the grain on my finger tips. It was originally designed to hold two 21" 4:3 CRT monitors. So, yeah. Plenty of room.

Should I decide to use a mouse pad, there's plenty of room.

your link is a pretty simple\cheesy desk.

i always go L-shape so i have plenty of room for writing with a pen\pencil and reading physical text (people do still do that) while gaming\computing. also need my b*ng and stuff easily accessible.

there are some really nice gaming-geared setups though.

this is one a user here posted on the "show off your hardware" thread.

Well if that works for you then it doesn't really matter what I think.

I just want my mouse and keyboard close together with no level difference between them. I'd feel locked if I was in a confined space like that. It's a problem if you use low sensitivities. I use a pretty high sensitivity compared to most other cs go global elites, but it's probably a lot lower than what you use. I don't use my whole mousepad, but I don't see how you could swing your arm without hitting something in your setup.

Also I like to have my monitor really pretty close.

To the OP, try this desk http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90214308/

I use it in my apt(not the one I pictured above). It's a pretty good desk. Don't install the drawers though, they will hit your legs.

This is an old picture where I had one of the drawers left, I took it out later.

I adjust my mouse sensitivities in Windows Control Panel. No specific figure. I eyeball how much mouse tracking it takes to get to each corner of my monitor. I correlate that with how much I have to move the mouse. I keep adjusting until I'm satisfied. The adjustments seem to carry over in the games because I haven't had to adjust mouse movements in any game, even Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4.

Edit:

Moving from the left side of the screen to the right takes around 2.5"-3" (I'm just eyeballing it).

As for the monitor, I can pull the monitor closer which is the case in 99% of the time. I like to have the keyboard and mouse right in front of the monitor. I'd have a harder time if it's (the mouse) offset too far to the right.

This is all the space I need when I game whether it's Quake 2, Doom 3, or the latest games.

The reason some people want a big mouse area is because they are using sensitivities a lot lower than you.

Most CS:GO pro players(and most players) use around 40cm/360-100cm/360. I'm just a random global elite(highest mm rank), but I use 19cm/360 since I came from Quake Live.

You should not ever use anything that isn't 6/11 on WIndows desktop since you get mouse acceleration. Most cs go players use 400dpi at 6/11.

The IME 1.1 needs to be overclocked to at least 500hz to really be usable. At the default 125hz you're probably using, the max tracking rate it is just too slow, it tops at 1 m/s. At 500hz or 1000hz it goes to 1.5m/s.

Eitherway, that isn't enough room for any semi-serious gaming.

Even if you're not gaming, you should try a wide open space setup. It's just more comfortable overall. I don't see the point of putting stuff on your desk that you don't directly interact with.

Could try one of these. They're pricey, but they're huge.

I'm using a wood and steel campaign desk I found at a garage sale a few years ago. It's heavy, but it's huge.

I quit online gaming back in early 2009. That means I now play only SP games where everything is slowwww (Far Cry 3 and 4, GTA V, TW3, etc). The only precision I need is for something like shooting out alarm boxes in Far Cry 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y-1H_jFWLE. That's it. My current setup is sufficient enough.

If I ever come out of "retirement," I'll have plenty of room on my desk. All that extra stuff I put by the mouse change on a day to day basis. If I need the room, I'll have it. I may have to buy a real monitor again, though. My 24" Dynex HDTV is at 8 ms. I'll need a monitor with a lower response time.

----

Anyway to the OP:

I honestly think a quality hardwood desk is a good investment. The only problem is, they're fricking heavy (think hernia). It's only good if you have a permanent home. They also cost a lot. But, one thing in their favor is hardwood furniture never depreciates unlike the particle board stuff that is so common today.

My corner desk has a companion which has a conventional layout and does not disassemble. The movers had a hard time getting it inside the house.

Yeah but size doesn't always mean they are bad.

My ones sound great... and if I turn them up to 40% they are loud as f*** and still sound great. Any higher volume and the windows start vibrating....

For audiophiles, size isn't really about volume. It's more about putting out sound without a crappy crossover frequency. If you don't know what that means, it probably doesn't matter to you. For those curious, it's basically how the speakers divide the sound frequencies up between the tweeter, woofers and subwoofers. But more specifically, I'm referring to the frequencies that would normally be directed to the subwoofer. Ideally you want the subwoofer putting out 60Hz or lower, because that's when bass is directionless. Being able to hear the bass coming directly from your subwoofer is indicative of a cheap-sounding setup because you're losing detailed sound and soundstage to a woofer that's supposed to be positioned somewhere out of the way.

Most people picky about sound probably wouldn't be particularly happy with the 100Hz+ crossover frequency that's uber common in small, cheap speaker setups. When the crossover between the mids and lows is so high, that's when speaker system starts sounding like a clock radio or iPod dock hooked up to cheap a subwoofer. Unless of course if you have no sub, then it's just clock radio sounding.

Small size isn't necessarily bad, because I've heard 4.5" inch woofers put out 100Hz pretty well (which is acceptable), but those are usually more expensive speakers. Logitech speakers and most PC speakers usually have some insane 120+ Hz crossover, which don't sound very good if you're accustomed to speakers with better crossover frequencies. With crossover that high, you lose most of the soundstage, bass definition, and you generally just get some major bass bloat.

I don't know about the frequency of my Logitech Speakers.... but they weren't cheap ($500), the subwoofer is pretty big and heavy, and I have a good ear for quality and these bad boys sound really good. Of course not as great as a $30,000 cinema speaker set... but good for gaming.

Considering Logitech tries to keep important specs a secret, doesn't give you the option to adjust the crossover on the system (an option that's standard in most HTIB), and the woofer cones are only 3" large and made of paper, I'm guessing the cross-over is not very good.

Speaking relatively (and from opinion), Logitech speakers are good for gaming in the same sense a GTX 960 is good for gaming. Gives you decent graphics settings with some bells and whistles, but isn't really anywhere close to enthusiast levels of A/V hardware.

Really though, this discussion is for another thread. To tie it in, I'll just recommend to get a desk that isn't cramped on space (if you have the space available in your room). It's always good to have space for comfort, big monitor, speakers, etc. - if you plan to keep the desk for a long time. It's usually very easy to modify desks to suit your needs if they're slightly different than what you need (my desk is butchered compared to how I received it, to make room for big monitor and speakers).

I've got one of these:

http://www.jesperoffice.com/jesper-office-furniture-collections/jesper-office-2000#P6667-2168OFF_CherryLSetup

It's a 71" desk with no drawers and I got the cherry finish plus the L piece.

It's not my main gaming setup anymore, but it's still a decent workspace. One thing I also would recommend, though, would be monitor arms if you can afford the extra expense. They are very handy for giving you extra room.

Here's what I built. It surrounds me on three sides so plenty of space to do office work. It is an old picture as I have changed the kb & mouse and the audio setup but the desk is the same.
