Hi to all:::I dont understand why games today isnt showing any blood and gore..This mature stuff, for children not to have violent games, i understand, but we, older players want to have some reality in games. For example...the Soldier of fortune shows that every bullet has its place in the body, dont get me wrong, i am not sadistic maniac, who wants to tear bodies, but its doze of reality...Consoles like xbox or ps2(3) they must have mature rating, but on PC:question: Child rather plays on consoles then PC...no offence to console gamers, but for us older PC players this hasnt making any sense to me...Maybe i am too old for games?

Playing Total war games or ww2 shooters it will be good to see some reality in all those battles i spend half of my life playing, rather then be with my wife:oops:

It's all a conspiracy by the US Government to further desensitize Americans to killing so that they are more likely to join the Army and stuff. Seriously. Theres a website about it and everything.

I agree, I wish more games wouldadd blood into them. I liked playing F.E.A.R. and watchingsomebody I had just hit witha shotgun at point blank explode into a red mist. I don't care if it's realistic or not.

Yep my 8800 can still drop down to 20 fps at some points in the game, specifically the first level on the roof. That's not the hardwares fault, it's the game. When I played it with my ol 9800Pro I would get 1 fps at that very spot. But the rest of the game ran fine (until the next level that had a roof). Poorly optimized indeed.

When games become photorealistic I can't imagine games where you can blow a person to bits in detail being allowed. The haters will accuse fans of these type of games as being sadists. I reckon such games will be made to look more cartoony to hide such realistic detail maybe!

I can deal with a slightly unrealistic look for games like that, I just don't want to be denied my right to enjoy a violent game that actually has blood in it.

reality pleeeeese!!!

So In the future when games are photorealistic you'd be happy dismembering someone in graphic detail with a gun?

I think it would look pretty damn sick (as in gross). I think there would haveto be a line drawn somewhere.

We all know we are playing a game and I think it's a bit hypocritcial to call me a psycho. I don't think you are really comprehending what a a photorealistic game would be like because nothing out there comes close at the moment.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but in all liklihood they won't be allowed.

I completely understand you, i dont want my children to play those kind of games either, but i think developers could make a game that suit us, and put something like pasw for violence on and off, like they did one with dvd players8), iam not a psycho, i am a serious player, merried, working, just want some reality gaming!;)

Sounds good to me! ;) I agree with you I want the realistic violence in games. My point was maybe a bit of topic, I was talking further down the line when games look like real life (photorealistic), where is the line drawn then? I hate it when they take out the blood and gore; games at the moment look like computer games at the moment so it shouldn't be an issue.

I actually had this discussion with my brother the other day. We were watching Casino, but turned it off because the end of the movie gets so brutal. That's when we realized that video game violence doesn't really bother us the way "real" violence does. I can't stand watching those viral videos of people getting into bloody fights. I have to look away when I see those videos of people breaking their arms and legs and stuff. It grosses me the hell out!

But, video game violence doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I revel in video game violence! Dismembering your enemies in Mortal Kombat, blasting the legs off terrorists in Soldier of Fortune, gibbing your opponent in Quake. I loooove that! Why? Because it's not real. I'm not dismembering a real person, I'm dismembering a piece of code. Sure, the image on screen is clearly a human, and it looks pretty damn real - but at the same time, it doesn't! It's so far from reality that my brain doesn't register an "Eww" factor.

I think part of what's going on here is the American ideal that "My standards and ethics are the best ones, so everyone else should live by them too." What I mean by that is: the American people tend to be a bit 'high and mighty' reguarding what they think otherpeople should and shouldn't enjoy. Just because they don't enjoy watching a particular subject matter, doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't like it either.

For example, how many times have you heard someone complain about a type of music they don't like? "Ugh! God! How can anyone listen to this crap?! It's aweful! They shouldn't play such bad music on the radio! People who listen to this kind of music are degenerate thugs." Just because this person doesn't like this type of music, it means that everyone who enjoys it is a degernate thug.

For someone to lable another person "sick" or a "sadist" because they enjoy violent video games is naive, selfish, and just plain silly. Millions upon millions of people pay tons of money to watch movies like Hostel and Saw. But nobody lables those movie-goers as "sick" or "dimented." So what if a violent game appeals to sadist in some of us? Who has the right to tell us what we should and shouldn't want to see? In my personal opinion, I think the person who pays $20 to go see someone tortured on the silver-screen for two and a half hours is far more sadistic then the average gamer.

The interaction element makes games different to movies. We can't control what happens in a movie but we can in a game. I really believe that this isn't an issue for current games because they don't look that real (let's be honest) when you can't tell the difference between graphics in a game and an HD movie then it's an issue.

This is inevitably going to happen however because games are looking more and more realistic year by year.

Yeah but it's a given that games are going to become more lifelike as technology improves. It's already in the cinemas (sort of)it just hasn't worked it's way down to home PCs.

Many developers now only try to make a game that can be put onto as many platforms/consoles as possible, so to get it an age-rating that will sell well on a console they must reduce the graphic and violent content across all platforms. Your only chance to see very violent games would be PC specific games.

Shooting even a demented psycho is something i would not do in real life. Rather run away than cause pain. But video games, thats another story hehe. Monolith productions seems to be bringing it all back with great qulity. Playing Condemned: Criminal Origins on my pc now. Gameplay may get repetitive, but thats just the thing..you gotta take breaks from the game, not necessarily finish it all in one setting. If you havent tried Condemned, please do..i would give the game an 8.5 or higher. And FEAR is just like a desert..or you can do it the other way around..:P

I also just went through Quake 4 all over again..yep, that game rocks..i think i'l get Doom 3 and the expansion and have a run through them after Condemned. ID and Monolith are pro's when it comes to gore and violence. And in every game they lately made, there's style.

I don't understand what differentiates them. I thought the issue was violence, not interactivity. Nobody has a problem with a video game where you bash people, until you introduce the element of gore. So it's not the fact that you are telling your character to attack something, it's how the outcome of the attack is portrayed on the screen.

That seems to be the most prevalent argument on the anti-violent-video-games side. But that can work the other way around. In a video game, you have a choice whether or not the character on the screen should hurt someone. When you watch a movie, you have no choice but to watch the character hurt someone in vivid, gruesome detail.

Saying that we can't control what happens in a movie, but we can in a game is essentially saying the major difference between the two is the act of pushing buttons. If pushing a button while playing Mortal Kombat makes me more of a sadist then the person staring wide-eyed at the very, very real looking violence of Hostel, I'm at a loss for words...

Mature gamesdoes not equate togore... :| They are just fine where they are at.. There are far more things that devs need to focus on then gore, like gameplay.. Let me guess you ONLY play FPS's?

Noone can, only and maybe the developers can:P

Yeah but it's a given that games are going to become more lifelike as technology improves. It's already in the cinemas (sort of)it just hasn't worked it's way down to home PCs.

When games technology gets more life like i'm expecting more games to be banned and more legislation.

A single game has yet to be banned in the United States.. :| It goes against our first amendment and the only thing that has come even remotely close to it was just enforcing the rating where people under 18/17 can not buy adult or mature rated games..

Jack Thompson for instance has been laughed out of court numerous times, he has gotten absolutely nothing to show for.

Yep games are getting more & more boring. Need gore, lots & lots of gore. ET:QW is ruined for me. Not a drop of blood anywhere .. At all .. bah!BounceDK
I have to admit that was kind of disappointing given the darker side of the Quake games.

[QUOTE="gfile"][QUOTE="thanatose"]I agree, I wish more games wouldadd blood into them. I liked playing F.E.A.R. and watchingsomebody I had just hit witha shotgun at point blank explode into a red mist. I don't care if it's realistic or not.BounceDK
Ive missed F.E.A.R, played 1 mission, andthen realize my pc cant handle it the way is suposed to... I said to myself "that game isnt well optimized"

Poorly optimized indeed.

whoa really? mine never fails, stays above 30 98% of the time in the test and i never notice anything in game. If it is just that spot, it really is just that spot. Is the rest of your pc not at the same level as your gfx card? That can make for issues (did for me until i upgraded the rest of it).

Oh and gfiles rig 'should' run it fine, i had similar but with a 6600 gt, i had it at 1280x1024 and most settings high, no AA tho im pretty sure.

Anyways, yeah violent games are less common, but theyre not all being toned down (on consoles even - see gears of war, bioshock, good old god of war). Fear is probably the best example, and mighty good fun it is, especially in multiplayer. Theres bloodspray in Cod 2 im pretty sure, lots of bullet holes in far cry, you can chop peoples heads and limbs off in dark messiah... theres a big market for this kind of stuff, so its not exactly empty. On the other hand, it does kind of restrict the target market a bit, which is my guess at the biggest reason more and more games with less or no gore are getting made.

No game has ever been banned in Denmark either, and I'd like to keep it that way. No matter how sick or gory it is, that's my choice if I wanna buy it or not.

Your government and/or what ever film/game classification people your country has may think differently. I suppose time will tell.
