I've set my eyes on this PC (BTW I'm from Canada so 1250$ is not as expensive since in the US it would be around 1000$ only)

- 1250$

- Motherboard: ASUS H81M 730 Watts

- Intel Core i7 4790 8x4.0GHz Turbo

- 8GB DDR3-1600 Kingston HyperX

- HDD 1000GB SATA3 7200RPM

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB HDMI

- Sound 7.1 HD surround

I already have a PS4 but I don't find myself playing much at all. A lot of games I want to play are not compatible with the PS4 (PS3 or other platforms) and most of the games now are remasters...

What I like about the PC is mods, free online, and backward compatibility. However I'm not a heavy gamer, I usually only play in the summer and I will likely play few games other than Witcher 3, GTA 5, and few other old ones like Skyrim.

So do you think it's a good idea for me to get the PC? Thanks!

But on custom PC sites I've visited, a PC with Intel i5 with mostly identical ends up being more expensive than this one.

There's no reason to buy a PC unless you're interested in MMORPGs or strategy titles. PC atm is chock o block full of games which are mediocre. ANd most of its good games are console ports. the old days of the PC being its own platform which produced its own triple AAA titles such as Quake, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, Half Life (etc). Those days are gone.

You can build a better one for cheaper. Here's an example with better components for much less - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/h3WXBm

Plenty of Games to go at RPGs. Devinity Original Sin, Witcher I&II, Pillars of Eternity.. Skyrim if you have not played on console but then there's all the mods for it. If you like city builders you have to get Skylines loads of mods for that too..

starcraft II , Grey goo , Totasl War Series, company of Heros, Dawn of War for your RTS needs.

you have only got to look through steam or other vendors like GOG, Green man, humble Bumble.. all of these have great offers and sales.

as for the price just depends on what you want to spend. The latest I7 will stand you in good stead for a while & will also set you up for new titles like Witcher III..

However I5s offer good value and are more than capable of running any of the above games.

Forget to mention the ARPGs Torchlight II, lots of mods here, Path of Exile (Free) and of course diablo III

@MonsieurX: Thanks but i forgot to mention that I'm from Canada...so the same list here ends up being more than 1250$ (>.<)

@insane_metalist: Thanks to you too, but your list is also more expensive in Canada. Plus in both cases I must pay to get it assemble (can't do it myself), so in the end it's gonna be more expensive than the pre-built one.

Ya for Canadian prices that's a decent build and not all that expensive. Go for the pc man. I built one and I'm never going back. Not only am I playing games at 1440p which is so awesome, my computer can do all sorts of stuff and at lightning speeds. Sucks that Canadian prices are so high I probably payed $600 more then the same build if I was in the states but I'm here and shits expensive and tax is a bitch.

@ribstaylor1: LOL yeah after taxes is gonna be around 1500$ for me. Tax is more than 15% here, but well we've got free healthcare :p

Thanks for the suggestion I think I'm gonna go for this build. Only concern I have is the store, which feels a bit sketchy, and I saw on 1 review that says the computer he bought kept having problems. But the shop does offer 1 year warranty, so don't know if that's something I should be concern about.

That's nice! I love RPG games (mostly Western ones) and there aren't that many on the PS4 yet.

@daijobu93: Why not build one? Will save money and if you buy good parts each part has a decent warranty past a year (ex my power supply had a 5 yr, my graphics card has a 3yr my motherboard a lifetime and 5 yrs for my harddrive). It also only takes about an hour and a half or so to put one together and install windows/drivers and have it game ready.

@daijobu93: yes 550W is more than enough, you are only using a single GPU (and a maxwell GPU at that) that PSU can do the job, you should get the build that insane_metalistlisted.

It's more then enough. The system itself will use around 350W so a nice 550W Gold rated PSU will get the job done even with tons of overclocking.

The price isn't too bad to be honest. But yes I'd go PC.. I think we're about to see the PC get a lot of attention especially once windows 10 drops... If you can wait a bit until the skylake processors come out at the end of the summer that'd be even better. The main consoles out there right now are a joke. They're good for indie and sports titles, nothing more.

Agree with thethig1 100%.

If I had to only play consoles I would probably quit games all together....maybe. Thing is while PC exclusives are in fact mostly MMOs, RPGs and RTS games we usually get the better versions of all the multiplatform games as well. And don't get me started on higher resolution and frame rate.

I don't hate console or anything but after having a gaming PC for a while now I see no reason to buy a console.

If it weren't for some appealing exclusives, I would agree with you guys that consoles aren't necessary. But, the wii u exclusives, bloodborne, halo 5... I would feel like i missed out on some pretty cool experiences if I just stuck to pc.

I don't have a single console device but yet have seen all there games.

youtube > lets play / walkthrought while playing a pc game next towards it :P

I personally would get a motherboard that supports sli and bump the psu up a notch in order to be ready for sli in the future if you want to. Otherwise you will have to replace that psu. But yea it will cost more :P

PC gaming at the moment is shit for core gamers. You really do need to stop trying to fool yourself when you're defending a platform which doesn't gain any decent core exclusives. Just shitty indie games, shovel ware and the left overs from Console development. And even some of the left overs are not given to the PC (ie Bloodborne).

lol...I'm not fooling myself into anything.

I have more games than I have time to play. I have a whole list of stuff I got for dirt cheap on steam that I have not even gotten to yet. I looked at getting a console a few months back and could not find one game I wanted to play that I couldn't play on pc. Other than Destiny but after reading the reviews figured it probably wasn't worth buying a console for.

Bloodbore is probably the only thing thing I can think of that I would like to play on console. Everything else I can get on pc....bloodborne wasn't out at the time I was considering a console.

And I'm sorry but I'm not playing a fps with a controller, at 30fps in 1080.

Sure pc needs more exclusives but it's still got a massive amount of games and the consoles library is really shallow. Again, regardless of what you say, I see no reason to buy a console.

@ShimmerMan: I think that the current trend for console gaming(besides the Wii U) is pretty shallow but it's getting better.

I contribute that opinion to playing so many different games over various platforms the last 25 years. Just like a film critic you can be pretty jaded.

I had fun with both Destiny and Bloodborne. Are they great games? No. Are they worth trying? Yes. Are they enough to convince me of investing in a new console? No.

In my eyes they're not like the original Halo, Ocarina of Time, Sonic the Hedgehog, or even Metal Gear Solid 4. These games were a must play! That has always been the biggest appeal when it came to consoles for me. "There's nothing else like it."

Each generation that phrase looses feeling especially when consoles are growing to be more like PCs. Maybe it will change. I honestly think Nintendo is the only one who has it right and thats strange coming from a guy who grew up with the Sega Master System and a Genesis.

Then there's the mass marketing and the lack of playable demos for big AAA games. The idea of "try before you buy" is fading; more so on home consoles where the platform is very much close ended and controlled.

I wasn't going take a shot at the hardware. But after seeing hardware and software developers showing interest in ultra high definition. There is no way I see home consoles currently having a "proactive" approach to gaming. Why would Sony create a 4k UHDTV without plans for a 4k ready PS4 in the future? Talk about screwing early adopters.

Destiny is a good game. Maybe not a great game but it is definitely decent.

Bloodborne is a great game. I don't know what the **** your smoking but if Bloodborne is not a great game then literally everything on the PC is complete and utter S****. Go to metacritic and look at the 96 critic reviews. 95 positive and 1 mixed ( 92/100 metacritic score ). I know you think you're being smart by attempting to downplay a great game as being merely above average but you're just fooling yourself and nobody else.

@ShimmerMan: Dude. It's just a personal opinion. I had fun playing it. Plus I enjoyed Demon and Dark Souls. But this isn't a game that'll sell me on the PS4.

Edit: Right now Final Fantasy XV would be that one game I could possibly drop money for something new in the living room. I think it's ambitious; maybe too ambitious for SE.

Eh? If you already have a PS4, but you do not use it very often, then PC is the only option. There's nothing else that'll convince you to use the PS4 more than you already do.

I agree - I mean, I think the spirit of the question is "is it WORTH investing in a PC like ___" but seems like the heart of the matter is if the OP isn't enjoying their PS4 and is interested in PC games... nobody can make you enjoy something that you don't.

If the PS4 had proper mouse and keyboard support for (FPS) games, I'd be happy playing many multiplats on it in addition to exclusives. But, it doesn't. So, it's the PC still for me.

I agree....controllers at 30 fps feels like punching under water while blinking my eyes. Plus let be honest here....there aren't an over abundance of exclusives on PS4 either. At lest not that are so good that I'm going to run out and buy a console. In fact there are far more on PC...they might be rts, MMOs and rpg but still good games.

How anyone could claim victory for ps4 over pc is beyond me. But hey...to each his own.

If your not a heavy gamer get a Alienware Alpha, it is basically the best entry level pc you can get for that price.. Currently it is $450 on Amazon for the I3 version with 4gb of ram and a 500 gb hard drive.. The only thing extra I would get is a new hard drive (like the Seagate SSHD 1tb for $70) and maybe another 4gb of ram (which is like an extra $30 down the road.. With that your able to enjoy the vast majority of pc titles at 1080p at 60fps.. Along with the enjoyment of mods, online, and backwards compatibility.. The thing also runs quiet and is smaller than either of the current gen big consoles. I don't see why you would invest so much money in a computer like that if you said your self that your not a very heavy gamer, nor have you experienced much of pc gaming to begin with.. The Alienware alpha is a safer bet as a entry level machine that will still be useful down the road if you do decide to get a more powerful machine due to it's form factor and portability.

If you want it go for it. But you're gonna be surprised at how redundant It is.

Why don't you dump the 4790 and get a AMD FX 8350 8 Core Black Edition. It will save you $100 - $120 dollars. Also, I would wait a month to see what AMD has with their AMD HBM GPU, even if you don't get the AMD GPU the prices of nVidia GPUs might drop thus saving you more money.

And PC of course over PS4. Don't be silly. :P

with PC gaming, you will also find bigger online game communities (not to mention better online games), wich is nice. all the multiplatform games play consistently at 1080p 60fps (combined with antialiasing, wich you don't have on console 1080p) from my living room TV, and i can use a wireless X360 controller (yes, last gen controller, but all the new and upcoming games support it since it's practically the same as the new one) and play from the sofa.

i only have Bloodborne for my PS4. i'm not even expecting to buy anything else for it for a long time.

I just think it's funny how people act like consoles have all these amazing exclusives. They don't...sure there might be a couple here or there that are good or even great games but I'll take PC's exclusives over console's any day. I personally would take the many MMO and RPG exclusives on PC over the few on console. Nothing wrong with consoles but they have a very limited library, run at low fps and resolution and don't have proper mouse and keyboard options. PC beats console in every way...it's just the way it is.

I stop playing pc games now that I got a PS4. 30 fps is fine when you get used to it. I just like playing NHL 15 Mortal Kombat X, DriveClub Destany, GTA5, Why you guys need so many games all the time is rather funny
