Here's my take on current gen console gaming and pc gaming.
I was a big pc gamer starting around 97 when I built my first gaming rig. I still remember buying a voodoo 2 for 3d gaming and it was glorious. Anyway, I was a diehard pc guy up until the mid 2000s when I decided to sell my rig and go console only.
I have owned all three current consoles. I sold the ps4 almost immediately as all my friends were playing on the xbone. Recently sold off all my xbone games and the console is just sitting there. I LOVE my Wii U. It's not going anywhere. The xbone will most likely be sold off soon.
Right now I just got delivered today, all brand new, an i7 4790k, msi gaming 5 mobo, 16gb 2x8 memory and a Samsung 250gb ssd from a buddy for $300. Picked up a seasonic 850 psu, Anthoo case, Logitech mechanical keyboard and a mouse from newegg along with a few random other needed things for about $500. I know that's not the best example as I got a killer deal but starting small and building up is always an option. I still need to pick a monitor, gpu and cooling. Using an old 6950 from a buddy for the time being.
I am so excited to be back into pc gaming. The multiplats are there. The free online is there. The power to do whatever you want is there. Plus there is nothing like building and tinkering with your own rig.
I am just so underwhelmed by the current consoles. The performance I can live with but I just don't see any major exclusives that make me want to own one. In the end i think it's just the fact that with a rig you can play with settings, upgrade, overclock and just control everything. I miss that freedom the most. The fun of putting it all together and making the wiring as neat as can be. It's a hands on experience. I get it if you prefer consoles but I've got the pc bug again and oh boy is it great. It can be a huge money pit though if, like me, you like having the newest tech when it releases. I'm not going to go as crazy as I have in the past upgrading with every new gpu and every other cpu but like I said there's nothing like a pc for a truly personal experience.
