good article.
One thing I might add is that consoles also have their revenue diminished in various ways but you never hear about that. The second hand market, roms market, just plain old ripping console dvds, and the rentals market all disproportionately affect the console market but all devs ever talk about is warezs and torrents.
I also like that he pointed out that games like crysis(he didn't specifically say crysis) don't sell in part because the high-endpc gaming market isn't that big and they scare a lot of people off with high system requirements.
sort of.. that's brad wardell, the CEO of stardock. not just any random dev. :) though crysis seems to have outsold sins / galciv2 about 5:1, despite high requirements.good article.

Makari
yeah "don't sell" was probably a bad choice of words but what I meant is they don't sell enough to recover their investment and make enough profit off that investment. sins didn't cost that much sop the return on investment was pretty good even with lower sales.

yeah.. the moral of the story is to make cheap games. =P heh. he has his own philosophy that works very well with his company and setup, but it wouldn't work for the baldurs gates and fallouts and half-lifes of PC gaming, the big-budget epics. Please Log In to post.
