I am currently trying to setup my new room so I can be comfy in it. I have a gaming laptop and have just bought 2 Razer products along iwth a new headset and mouse pad. What are some speakers do you guys recommend for gaming? Thanks guys!

P.S. I am currently using the Eagle Tech speakers.http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Tech-ET-AR504LR-BK-Soundstage-Subwoofer/dp/B0029Z9UNW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343583953&sr=8-1&keywords=eagle+arion+speakers. They are pretty afforadable and decent speakers but I am wanting a 5.1 Dolby Digital speaker set.

First of all, what is your budget? Second, unless you have a high budget (we're talking like $1000) its hard to recommend anything more than a 2.1 stereo setup. Its better investing in a proper pair of stereo speakers, and gradually adding up to your 5.1 surround when you have money later on.

Alternatively, you could look at the used market near your area for great bargains on old hi-fi.

Generally, the minimum we recommend for 5.1 surround is $300-400 for the famous Onkyo setup where the receiver alone is nearly worth the price tag of the setup.

I recently found a pair of DALI floor standing speakers + a yamaha receiver for $200 for a friend of mine. Centre channel speakers from Dali are as cheap as $100 used and another pair of bookshelf speakers would about $100 as well.

So a $400, used old DALI 5.1 surround would be 50 x better than any crap you can buy @ walmart/bestbuy like Logitech, creative etc.

anywhere from $100-$200...I'm purchasing a lot of stuff for my setup at the moment. I mean I am very flexible on this though. I will look into craigslist or other websites and see what I can get. I already ordered a home theater system and already have a 32" tv for my bedroom. The furniture is all in the new apartment already and I'll possibly get a more comfortable chair.

Well I am sorry but there is just no way I, (or anyone reasonable) could recommend a decent 5.1 surround setup for you if that is your budget. Surely, they do exist but the products at that price range absolutely suck, and it would pay of going for a stereo 2.0/2.1 instead. For Instance Dayston B52 + T1 amp combo with a Dayton Sub1000 10" woofer for $160 or the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 for about 100 dollars. And home theater systems have really poor quality too I'm afraid. You'll need to buy separate speakers/amp for the best sound for your buck.

I would highly recommend returning those and buying seprate speakers and reciever from a more sound quality focused company bose relies heavily on marketing and marks up there product above the soudn quality they offer. Not sure which bose home theather system you bought nor how much you paid for them but some quality replacements that also have small/smallish foot prints at various price points. You just need to add a surround sound reciever to plug them all into(except for the onkyo system increasing the value considering this usually sells for a $1000) You could also buy individual speakers and subwoofer or buy a set of 5 sattelites and buy a seprate higher quality subwoofer then is included in the 5.1 set if you want. Just need a budget for how much you can spend.

I hate having to tell you this after you've already bought them, but I hope you can still return them and get your money back. Bose is overpriced, and don't really offer high quality sound, even though their price tag suggests so. You would be much better off buying a seperate 5.1 set from a notorious speaker manufacturer and then getting a receiver from Denon, yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo etc. And again, if you go used, you'll get an insane deal. 5 X your Bose sound for half the price..

Not to give you buyer's remorse, but I wish you'd stopped by here before buying all that equipment. Odds are between the denizens of these forums we could find you a superior system at less money. If you can return the products you have, let me know where you live (I might be able to recommend local deals), your total budget and objectives, we can probably get your home-theater to perform double-duty as surround sound for your computer, and superior headphones that will work as both a headset and headphones. Happy gaming, Boz

Well a budget AV receiver is £150, but you would be better off spending £250 - £300.

Then you have to budget in speakers, so 5.1 is not gonna happen for that price unless you happen to have a load of spare hi-fi speakers lying around like i did.

Well there's no reason to feel ripped off  Though at £50 that receiver is such a bargain its incredible. Its the third Yamaha receiver of its calibre that I found for £50. My mate recently bought one a few weeks ago (with a pair of Dali speakers, full sized towers for just £100!)

Here's some other used receiver deals I found:

Onkyo receiver + Cambridge 89 DVD player for £70:

Pioneer AV receiver (5x30watt) + DVD player for £50

So if you find some great used deals, you can have a FULL BLOWN hi-fi 5.1 for £200. Not the best, but certainly 10 times better than an HTiB solution!

Simple dude.. Just go to ebay and and search for known subwoofer brands like..

Velodyne

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=velodyne&_sacat=0

Well of course I don't know your budget.. if you have high budget you could try looking for SVS subs.. :D

But XTZ, Dayton, Dali should have some great budget subwoofers. Found a Dali one for £190..

Haha yeah. Velodyne makes som sick sub woofers. Not sure if they are the best budget subs out there, but they are famous for their high end subs. 1000 hifi watts has got to be sick, my KEF sub is 250 watts :)

Yes I have used logitech, creative and all sorts of budget speakers from companies who specialize in electronics rather than pure audio. There is a reason proper loudspeakers are 3 times the size of those made by logitech and similar companies, you need a proper cabinet to produce a full and even sound. I'm not saying that logitech are terrible, just that for people serious about sound they are not good enough. They are fine for the average user just wanting to watch some youtube videos.

I used to own Logitech X540s before I became an audiophile (now I have Bowers & Wilkins speakers) And my god, Logitech is so goddamn awful. You are so much better off with a pair of Dayton B652s and a Lepai or Dayton amp, for like $60...

For PC Speakers there are only 4 legit speakers I've ever heard

videologic sirocco pro and crossfire (remember these! Those Audax drivers...hmmm)

Creative gigaworks (newer one)

Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 (No Equal for Movies, that sub was ultra nasty for such a price range)

M-Audio Swans

Don't take it too hard, Ajax: Logitech offers a convenient and inexpensive solution for many gamers, especially if they're not audiophiles. Indeed, it would be tough to get surround sound for much less. But if you love quality audio, it's not going to hold up against a dedicated audio manufacturer like Klipsch or a Harman Kardon brand.. If you want high-quality audio, you really do need a beefier amplifier and power supply than what you'll get in a budget Logitech system. Quality speakers have sturdy cabinets of wood or plexiglass. Cheap plastic cabinets with paper cone drivers can sound decent on a budget, but with some hunting you can almost always find something superior in the used marketplace or on special. Just today the Klipsch Quintet system went on sale at Tech Woot for $180, offering excellent drivers for use with a budget audio system on a budget. All that said, I'm going to discourage you from buying a higher-quality audio system. If you're happy with your Logitech system, keep it and be happy. High-quality audio gear is not wallet friendly! ;) Happy gaming, Boz

[QUOTE="AjaxNeron"]I really disagree with that. I honestly don't mean to be rude here, but have you owned a set of Logitech speakers? I'm seriously not meaning that to be rude at all, just curious. :)Bozanimal
Don't take it too hard, Ajax: Logitech offers a convenient and inexpensive solution for many gamers, especially if they're not audiophiles. I agree with the last part, life was much cheaper when I was happy with my £20 2.1 set.

I used to own Logitech X540s before I became an audiophile (now I have Bowers & Wilkins speakers) And my god, Logitech is so goddamn awful. You are so much better off with a pair of Dayton B652s and a Lepai or Dayton amp, for like $60...

Add a Sub-1000 to that for $100. Boom wicked little budget stereo setup.

Precisely.

Nothing you have said makes any sense.

Would you care to explain what you were saying? Or asking? Or adding? Or whatever it was you were trying to do? :P

Happy gaming,

I have the Logitech Z-5500 for my PC, and music pleasure.

It's not a bad system and is certainly better than the new one. It offers 5.1 surround sound, and a good bass thump.

No, its not the best for clarity, and speaker position is important as the satilight speakers aren't great at producing sonic audio but they are good enough for when you want to pump up music loud for sure.

No, they won't beat a dedicated system with an amp, etc, but they do the job nicely and don't cost the earth now either if you can still find one about.

Go to AVSforums.com or Head-fi.com. They will help you out. Two pairs I can recommend. The Audioengine A2's and The Polk Audio TSi100. Dont get a sub at a $100-$200 budget. Please dont.

Sir. Get of this topic. If your recommending $40-$80 speakers. Look at Audioengine A2's or Polk Audio TSi100's. Read some reviews for them. You'll see that Logitech makes crap products except for some of there mice.
