PC Speakers

I am currently trying to setup my new room so I can be comfy in it. I have a gaming laptop and have just bought 2 Razer products along iwth a new headset and mouse pad. What are some speakers do you guys recommend for gaming? Thanks guys!

They are pretty afforadable and decent speakers but I am wanting a 5.1 Dolby Digital speaker set.

First of all, what is your budget? Second, unless you have a high budget (we're talking like $1000) its hard to recommend anything more than a 2.1 stereo setup. Its better investing in a proper pair of stereo speakers, and gradually adding up to your 5.1 surround when you have money later on.

Alternatively, you could look at the used market near your area for great bargains on old hi-fi.

Generally, the minimum we recommend for 5.1 surround is $300-400 for the famous Onkyo setup where the receiver alone is nearly worth the price tag of the setup.

I recently found a pair of DALI floor standing speakers + a yamaha receiver for $200 for a friend of mine. Centre channel speakers from Dali are as cheap as $100 used and another pair of bookshelf speakers would about $100 as well.

So a $400, used old DALI 5.1 surround would be 50 x better than any crap you can buy @ walmart/bestbuy like Logitech, creative etc.

I would highly recommend returning those and buying seprate speakers and reciever from a more sound quality focused company bose relies heavily on marketing and marks up there product above the soudn quality they offer. Not sure which bose home theather system you bought nor how much you paid for them but some quality replacements that also have small/smallish foot prints at various price points. You just need to add a surround sound reciever to plug them all into(except for the onkyo system increasing the value considering this usually sells for a $1000) You could also buy individual speakers and subwoofer or buy a set of 5 sattelites and buy a seprate higher quality subwoofer then is included in the 5.1 set if you want. Just need a budget for how much you can spend.

Well a budget AV receiver is £150, but you would be better off spending £250 - £300.

Then you have to budget in speakers, so 5.1 is not gonna happen for that price unless you happen to have a load of spare hi-fi speakers lying around like i did.

videologic sirocco pro and crossfire (remember these! Those Audax drivers...hmmm)

I have the Logitech Z-5500 for my PC, and music pleasure.

It's not a bad system and is certainly better than the new one. It offers 5.1 surround sound, and a good bass thump.

No, its not the best for clarity, and speaker position is important as the satilight speakers aren't great at producing sonic audio but they are good enough for when you want to pump up music loud for sure.

No, they won't beat a dedicated system with an amp, etc, but they do the job nicely and don't cost the earth now either if you can still find one about.

Go to AVSforums.com or Head-fi.com. They will help you out. Two pairs I can recommend. The Audioengine A2's and The Polk Audio TSi100. Dont get a sub at a $100-$200 budget. Please dont.
