- I usually don't have any problem with games in PC or consoles, but when one happens, the solution is always much headbreaker in consoles.
In example: las time I had a problem in PC was running ArmA II after the installation, after starting the screen changed to black witha "out of range OSD display message. I search in the webs and after few minutes a friend say me about to change the default .cfg from 75 Hz to 60 Hz -was a problem with frequencies- and the problem was fixed. Last time I have a problem with a console game (Wip3out HD) there was a bug freezing the game if you had more than 50 friends in your list. It taked 3 WEEKS to the developers to fix the problem.
-A good PC to start gaming is a rig with a Q6600 or equivalent, 2 GB of RAM and a 8800 GT or better. It usually guarantees to be able to play multiplatform games at X2 resolution (1680 x 1050 vs 720p), X2 framerrate (60 fps vs 30 fps) and X2 filters (X2/X4 AA vs X0/X2 AA) compared to the consoles ones. If you want to max very intensive games as ArmA II or Crysis then you must aim to the HD 4890 or GTX 275 (around 200 € nowadays). So, yes, is more expensive than consoles, but the jump in quality is huge, sometimes brutal.
-Playin in PC is usually more confortable: you can chose between keyboard and mouse or control pad or joystick... in most of recents games, and you still can play PC in a 46" displays from your couch as with a console, but consoles usually lacks in variety of controls.
-There's some ultra high rated games exclusives from PC, as all that coming from Blizzard, all rts from Relic, and very personal projects as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., The Witcher, ArmA II, Gothic 3... And some generes as rts simply don't work in consoles. Can you live without Starcraft II, without Diablo III? Consoles had their own strong franchises and generes (platforms, fighting games... ) but PC lybrary is fine.
-MODs. Crysis Wars has 23 official maps, but I have 80 multiplayer maps from the game in my hard disc, and some sp mods. I paid nothing from these maps -are free stuff provided by talentous guys from the comunities-. Instead, in consoles you usually must pay for any crapy pack of 3 maps you want. The examples are endless.
-Repairs: in 10 years, I've only had to cange from my PCs a couple of sources and mouses. If you console breaks you must await weeks to fix.
-Backwards compatibility: you can play almost any game from the PC past in current PCs.
-Lifespan: multiplayer games in PC can last for decades -see Diablo II, BF 1942, Starcraft...- even without mods. Most of console games -aside from Halo 2- die in less than 5 years, making impossible to keep playing.
So, consoles are good if you like some of his exclusives, if not PC is better gaming platform.
