basically iv just moved home and i tried powering up my pc but it wont even power up. The plug socket and the electricity is working fine too. Also, the speakers and monitor know that they're connected to my pc so there must be some sort of power going through the sytem. I've also tried turning on the pc with both sticks of RAM in individually.

Specs:

intel 3570k

asrock extreme4 mobo

corsair 650w psu 80 plus bronze

2x 7200rpm hdd's

corsair force 3 240gb ssd

I doubt you have two bad sticks of RAM, although it could be possible. It sounds like either a dead power supply or motherboard. Although, I've never seen a Corsair PSU bite the dust. Have you tested the PSU with another computer?

the cpu and mobo are only 2 month old and my psu is over 2 year old. I don't have another pc to test it with.

Asrock is kind of a ghetto brand though. I'd say it's far more likely an Asrock mobo died than a Corsair PSU. Why didn't you go with a real brand like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, or Intel? I always find it amusing when n00bs buy a bunch of high-end components, and then go with some dumpster brand motherboard.

I'm barely a noob, and I was on a tight budget and everyone was suggesting that motherboard and everyone seems to love Asrock, plus I haven't seen anyone have a problem with that motherboard yet. Not all of us can splash out on a fancy major high end product. Sometimes budget products are better. Asrock are a real brand, what else are they gonna be? Make believe? lol

Asrock is not a ghetto brand... it's a solid brand. Must be a reason why Asus would like to buy Asrock...

Either way TC, was it working before ? Did you change anything ?

Check all the cable connections and make sure everything is seated properly. If the system got bumped while in transit it could be a cable or a piece of hardware has been knocked loose, definately take out your graphics card and reseat it, you've already done the RAM.

The only thing worse than Asrock is ECS. Never buy a cheap motherboard, or this will happen to you.

How is it cheap ? Did you even look at his mobo ?

Asrock has a range from low end to high end mobo... Just like another other mobo company.

Asrock is ranked 3rd for largest motherboard maker...

Well I just disconnected it from the mains and took it to the back of my aunts car and she drove to the new house, that's about it. But for some reason my pc hates it when you disconnect it from the mains. Last time I did it, it reset all the BIOS settings, not a clue why, and it also wouldn't properly boot untill I reseated my graphics card and RAM, weird stuff.

My graphics card isn't in my system at the moment. I'm not at home at the moment but when I get back tomorrow i'm gonna do a full reseat of everything. I had a look around the inside of the system, but only a quick look. I saw all of my front panel connections were connected properly, as were my psu connections. But yea, first thing tomorrow i'm doing a full reseat. Will report back with any changes.

Lol yea it was on, I also tried around 4 different power cables, on different plug extensions and also directly into the wall socket.

People still buy plasma TVs in this day and age?

Something like an Asus Sabertooth would be the equivalent of a Mercedes in the motherboard world. Asrock is the equivalent of a Hyundai or Kia. ECS is the equivalent of those Chinese cars that fold up like accordions after a 15mph impact.

Indeed, everything OCZ makes is garbage. They're a dumpster brand. They made some of the worst RAM money could buy, and now they're making crap power supplies and flaky SSDs.

When you've been building your own PCs for 20 years like I have, there are certain brands you learn to avoid.

Yes, people still buy plasmas, because they offer a better pciture, with deeper blacks. AsRock would be the eqiuvalent of Honda. and I wouldn't argue bout cars with me, because I probably know a damn sight more than you.

Wow kid, you're just too cool for school then I guess.

I haven't heard of anyone still buying Plasma TVs in recent years as anything other than a budget alternative to LCDs. And yes, the OCZ SSDs have horribly flaky firmware. Just because you lucked out and got one that works doesn't mean they all do.

Nope, took out the psu and the mobo and sat them on my desk and it's still not starting up or showing any form of life. I also tried another psu on it, no luck. Do you have to RMA Asrock mobo's through Asrock or the place of purchase?

When you've been building your own PCs for 20 years like I have, there are certain brands you learn to avoid.

You'll notice from my sig that I have an Asrock Z77 mobo in this rig and I built my first PC in 1990, before starting my software engineering degree. I very much choose hardware based on my experiences with the various manufacturers and my favorites are Asus and Corsair but I balance everything with cost. On another note I find it highly unlikely that Asus would risk their reputation by associating themselves with a crap brand and they do after all own Asrock.

Perhaps you've had a bad experience with them but don't think that everyone has. I've found them to be reliable and affordable, which is the perfect mix. Sure it ain't an Asus P8Z77 Premium with Thunderbolt but it also didn't cost £350. On top of that I think you'll struggle to find a bad review of their motherboards, I certainly haven't found any and I always check multiple reviews of all hardware components (especially if newly released or I haven't used them before) being used before building a system either for myself or someone else.

Check with you're retailer first, they may want you to send it to them or they may even be able to sort the problem out, depends on the retailer though. I do have a horrible feeling that we're missing somthing simple!

Try the paperclip trick on your PSU to see if it works. It's not 100%, but it should give you a basic idea if it is dead or not.

the power button could be broken?

I've seen some cases that short and aren't able to power the unit (by just pressing the button) up due to a short in the cable (the cable from the case to the mobo).

Nope, took out the psu and the mobo and sat them on my desk and it's still not starting up or showing any form of life. I also tried another psu on it, no luck. Do you have to RMA Asrock mobo's through Asrock or the place of purchase?

Check with you're retailer first, they may want you to send it to them or they may even be able to sort the problem out, depends on the retailer though. I do have a horrible feeling that we're missing somthing simple!

Yea I have that feeling too, I'm gonna take it down to the place of purchase today, they'll test it for me/send it back anyway. Thanks for the helpful tips anyway guys, greatly appreciated :) I'm hoping it's not my cpu too. It's a pretty sucky time for this to happen as my graphics card died a few week ago too and i'm awaiting for that to arrive from repairs. This isn't a good time for this to happen seeing as the new WoW expansion and Borderlands 2 has just come out :(
