Intel released Pentium E6500K which has an unlocked multi to compete against AMD X2 550. Pentium E6500K runs at 2.93Ghz stock with 2MB L2 Cache.

Currently it only has been released in China but will probably release in Europe & US.

Nope, will not be released here...

Even though I am guessing...it really doesn't seem likely to sell well with the i5's around the corner.

Bringing back the Pentium name?

The Pentium name has been around before with the E21x0's.

This is a good upgrade for users looking for some cheap bang for their buck (wouldn't recommend building a new system around this though). I wonder if it'll work with the old 945 chipset, I read it only had a FSB of 1066.

Ugh, Intel is really starting to annoy me with their "easy to understand" naming scheme, also all the different sockets they will be supporting is a complete Joke!

No kidding, I bet if they hired any one of us on this forum familiar with their lineup we could come up with something better. Although the EXXX QXXXX number scheme wasn't too bad with Core 2, but now they're inconsistent making an E6XXX a Pentium, and having 2 new sockets on top of that, just ridiculous. They must have the same marketing division Nvidia has.

And now we have to juggle the i5 name on 2 different sockets, 775 & 1156....wtf?

Wait, are they recycling Wolfdale and Yorkfield on the i5 name, or are they whole new dies on 755?

From what i recall they will be shoehorning them both into the i5 category.

Wow that's terrible. You'd think Intel would do surveys of what people thought of their naming scheme. Just because they think it's a good idea doesn't mean it is. They need to take a page from ATI (not AMD, lol they had quite a shuffle with socket 939, 940, AM2, AM2+, that confused a lot of people).

Exactly! Just a rock solid method that everyone can understand and most importantly they carry it over the generations so that its ****'ing consistent! I think you and me should storm Intel and sort their damn marketing team out...hihihi

there is the e6300 but the benchmarks show the core 2 really suffers when it's cache gets cut. the athlon 2 x2 is significantly faster than the e6300 in gaming and the other apps are pretty even but the phenom 2 x2 is slightly better overall.

god dam, nvida's stupid re branding is now catching on in the cpu world, now you really have to read every little thing about chips before you buy. gt240 sounds better than a 8800gt but it's the god dam same thing. so the i5 is basically core 2s re branded?
