FEAR 2 was better because in the end you get strapped to a chair and ***** by a gurl.

F.E.A.R. 2 is way better than F.E.A.R. - the problem here is that you obviously played F.E.A.R. close to its release date. You see - I didn't. Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that right now in 2009, you hadn't played either Half Life 1 or Half Life 2 or any of Half-Life 2's episodes. In my opinion, the original Half Life, for its day, was an incredible title, and, for its day, was so much better than Episode 1 was for its day. If I were to say to you: go play Half Life, the original game, because it's just a great game, and a lot better than Episode 1 - you'd probably say: "Well I actually did do that, and afterwards I played Episode 1, and let me tell you, Episode 1 was ten times better." Why would you say this: because the original Half Life is so dated that the experience is no longer a modern one. Guess what. The Original F.E.A.R. doesn't stand up to F.E.A.R. 2 - I played it the other night, and it's cheesy. That's right, cheesy. Maybe for its day the original F.E.A.R. was okay, but by today's standards I'd much rather play F.E.A.R. 2. I've just finished playing through the Wade Elementary School level - what an awesome level. That level alone justified the cost of the game. And I'm serious about that. Also, I'm completely baffled as to how you were able to play through the game in 5 hours? I'm at least 10 hours in, and I haven't even reached the halfway mark yet? I can't agree with you about the graphics being 'from an engine that was clearly from 2005' - have you watched IGN's video review for F.E.A.R. 2 - the reviewer practically gushes over the visuals. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyQTLul_-LoCharles_Dickens
1. Why is F.E.A.R.2 way better than F.E.A.R.? You have said it, but you haven't said why. If you are going to discuss the game with me, and take up a contrary position, explain your position rather than simply stating your position.
2. In what way have the standards changed over the last three years and what is it that F.E.A.R.2 does differently that allows it to meet these standards, while F.E.A.R. does not? Because the only thing I can see that is an improvement over F.E.A.R. is the visuals, and F.E.A.R.2 does not meet the current PC visual standard set by games like Crysis and S.T.A.L.K.E.R CS.
3. Your HL/Ep1 example contrasts two games with nearly ten years between them that play quite (though not significantly) different to each other, running in different engines. F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R.2 have merely three years between them, are running in the same engine and play in fundamentally the same way. This argument is nonsense unless you can raise points on how the standards have changed over those three years and illustrate how F.E.A.R.2 meets those standards while F.E.A.R. does not.
4. How is F.E.A.R. cheesy? Explain yourself. It's fine to just say it, but then what do I say? No it isn't? If all you're going to do is take up a contrary position, why bother posting? I've already read your first post. I know what you think. To be able to respond to you properly, I need to know why you think what you think.
5. If you're ten hours in and you aren't half way in, you're an exceptionally slow player or you're counting wrong. It's a five to six hour game unless you deliberately stand around counting tiles.
6. I haven't seen IGN's review, but, uh, I've played through the entire game; I can make up my own mind. Is that not what you do? Do you let others decide what you think? You can't post a review to prove a point. That guy's review is just an individual opinion, and last time I checked, working for a website didn't make your opinion any less subjective. F.E.A.R.2's engine is a slightly modified version of the F.E.A.R. 1 engine, and that should be obvious to anyone with eyes.
You've written a lot of words, but you haven't said anything.
It was good but you can tell it was consolized which is lame as ****. I prefer the first one by far to FEAR 2. First one really just felt over the top and crazy, but the second almost acts like it wants to be a tactical shooter. When a series starts out with a bang like FEAR did, you tend to look forward to sequels with an enthusiasm that is towards the possibility of playing the last game, but improved. FEAR 2 felt in many ways ike a different game, which made it not feel like FEAR. And so what FEAR 1 had alot of "monotonous" office spaces, the fire fights were so awesome. Hell, the Armacham Headquarters part of the game was my favorite. Lots of fun. Part of the consolization of FEAR 2 was the sight aiming (to make it easier for control pads), the "X" indicator to show you've hit an enemy (it started with PC games, but it's become way too prevelant, it's a guide of where to point your gun back to in some games like CoD4 especially), and the lack of lean controls which I find somewhat disrespectful to us PC gamers since it's totally able of being done on a keyboard. I guess Monolith was trying to equalize the experience for everyone PC or console  Honestly, the firing rate change was useless since the guns are pretty much dead on accurate anyways so recoil wasn't an issue. The open environments thing got annoying, which destroyed the intimacy of the fire fights, which is another very console thing to do since gamepads can't give the player the same "whip around" capability as a mouse and keyboard. There wasn't much in the way of puzzle solving or need of navigation skill. While this is arguably something bad about the first FEAR, I actually like the first FEARs confined, and somewhat consfusing spaces and level design. I'm not an idiot, I can navigate the level even with all the different passageways, but apparently console gamers I guess probably can't -- further dumbing down of the game to possibly meet a console type game design style. I liked it enough to play it and beat it, but the one time I beat it is probably the only time. I have no plans or intentions to play FEAR 2 ever again, but the first FEAR on the other hand as well as Extraction Point, I have no problem doing for the ump-teenth time :D They were awesome.
