Planning on building gaming PC eventually...

Okay, I plan on building a PC once I get the money for it. I have a list of things that I plan on getting to build it with, and the software and a few other things I think I'll need. Please tell me if all the parts are compatible and give me a few suggestions if you think you could.

So, is there anything else I need? Any suggestions? Everything compatible with each other? About how well would this run? Btw, when I added the cost of all of it, it came out to be about

Only thing I noticed right off the bat is that you are using a sound card with a 2.0 speaker system... I think you can remove the sound card and use onboard(they are usually decent now a days).

Seeing the Dynex and Rocketfish brands, I presume you're building off of Best Buy's website? If you're in the US, use Newegg or Tiger Direct. Also cut the network card, any motherboard these days will have a good enough network controller. As for the sound, like mentioned a sound card is unnecessary unless you are going for HTPC capabilities. If you are going for HTPC, get an Asus sound card as they are much cheaper than Creative solutions, while having 192 Khz capability standard. If you are going gaming specific, you'll most likely not need the card unless you are getting games with EAX support, in which case go for Creative, but the one you picked out is relatively expensive. A Creative Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer will do the job fine for EAX support.

even if hes not in nthe USA. the only other places are in the UK and canada. if hes canada ncix, newegg, and tigerdirect, memoryexpress are the places to go. and if your in the UK dabs, scan, and misco got your back man.

Oh and do you really need Windows 7 Professional? Get the home version of Windows 7 64 bit and save yourself some money!

oh VERY yes

On second thought, I might go with Windows 7 Home Premium because the RAM limit on that is 16GB and if I use up all the slots on the motherboard with 2GB sticks, it'll be 12GB, so there's no reasonto spend another $100 for a higher RAM limit I won't need. Also, I think I'll upgrade to Logitech - X-540 Multimedia Surround Sound Speaker System (6-Piece). Might give a good reason for the sound card. :P

What model is that motherboard by ASUS?

The 18.5" Monitor is a poor choice, go for something 22" by Samsung/Acer/Asus/LG 1920x1080, or else your wasting your money on such a powerful GPU (480GTX)

VisionTek – Killer Xeno Pro 128MB DDR PCI Express Network Card. This seems surplus to requirements.

Okay, then, I guess I could go with a Dell - 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor.

Reason being its practically the exact same thing as the Premium for $60 less!

Here are some facts and differences between them, the differences being minor (the E version actually has updated controllers) You will also find great OC'ing tips and guides on there. Xmisery's guide to 4Ghz is a good start but note what he says about it being a starting point, and every cpu chip is different.

Your pc build there is pretty sweet.I don't know that a sound card is completely necessary but it's your choice. Also, as long as you know the down sides of the gtx 480 (power, cost, heat) then you should be just fine. I'd suggest spending the extra money so that you can afford one of the aftermarket cooled and overclocked versions of the gtx 480. Like the zotac AAMP gtx 480 or the inno3d hawk. Also, you have to absolutely make sure that the motherboard you're buying has enough slots for all your pci/pci-express cards you're putting in since you haven't specified a motherboard there.

Oh and do you really need Windows 7 Professional? Get the home version of Windows 7 64 bit and save yourself some money!

Not sure that Windows 7 Home has XP Compatibility mode. I know Professional does. Might want to check that out if you want to run older stuff, although for the most part I don't need to run anything in XP mode with my Windows Pro.
