Okay, I plan on building a PC once I get the money for it. I have a list of things that I plan on getting to build it with, and the software and a few other things I think I'll need. Please tell me if all the parts are compatible and give me a few suggestions if you think you could.

List:

Intel® - Core™ i7-930 2.8GHz Processor

Windows 7 Professional

PNY – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 1.5GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card

Kingston Technology - HyperX 2-Pack 4GB PC3-14400 DDR3 DIMM Desktop Memory

Acer – 18.5" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Montior

Western Digital – Caviar GP 1TB Internal Hard Drive

Creative – Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card

LG – 10x Internal Blu-Ray Disc Double-Layer DVD+RW/CD-RW Drive

VisionTek – Killer Xeno Pro 128MB DDR PCI Express Network Card

Dynex – Multimedia Keyboard

Dynex – Optical Mouse

Axis – 2.0 Multimedia Speaker System (2-Piece) – Black

Antec - Nine Hundred II Computer Case

Asus – ATX Motherboard 2000/1600/1333/1066MHz (Socket LGA 1366)

Rocketfish – 12-Outlet Surge Protector

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010

Corsair - 750W ATX CPU Power Supply

So, is there anything else I need? Any suggestions? Everything compatible with each other? About how well would this run? Btw, when I added the cost of all of it, it came out to be about

Only thing I noticed right off the bat is that you are using a sound card with a 2.0 speaker system... I think you can remove the sound card and use onboard(they are usually decent now a days).

Seeing the Dynex and Rocketfish brands, I presume you're building off of Best Buy's website? If you're in the US, use Newegg or Tiger Direct. Also cut the network card, any motherboard these days will have a good enough network controller. As for the sound, like mentioned a sound card is unnecessary unless you are going for HTPC capabilities. If you are going for HTPC, get an Asus sound card as they are much cheaper than Creative solutions, while having 192 Khz capability standard. If you are going gaming specific, you'll most likely not need the card unless you are getting games with EAX support, in which case go for Creative, but the one you picked out is relatively expensive. A Creative Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer will do the job fine for EAX support.

On second thought, I might go with Windows 7 Home Premium because the RAM limit on that is 16GB and if I use up all the slots on the motherboard with 2GB sticks, it'll be 12GB, so there's no reasonto spend another $100 for a higher RAM limit I won't need. Also, I think I'll upgrade to Logitech - X-540 Multimedia Surround Sound Speaker System (6-Piece). Might give a good reason for the sound card. :P

What model is that motherboard by ASUS?

The 18.5" Monitor is a poor choice, go for something 22" by Samsung/Acer/Asus/LG 1920x1080, or else your wasting your money on such a powerful GPU (480GTX)

VisionTek – Killer Xeno Pro 128MB DDR PCI Express Network Card. This seems surplus to requirements.

Don't need the sound card or network card. If you really want a BluRay player in there, you're going to want a bigger monitor. At least something that can do 1080p, or a higher 16:10 resolution (usually 22"+). I personally think that the GTX 480 at $500 is a big waste of money compared to the 5870 which can be found for under $400. But the 480 is a little better, so if money isn't a concern, then its not a big deal. You might also not need as big of a PSU as 750W. You could probably be fine with something closer to 600W, if you're only going to have one video card.

Okay, then, I guess I could go with a Dell - 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor.

Also, about how much wattage do you think I would need then?

(For some reason it is not allowing me to link)

From Best Buy I can get the Dell - 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor for $189.99. Is that a good price?

Looks like your good to go there mate, best of luck with the build!:D

But I would change the motherboard for ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Reason being its practically the exact same thing as the Premium for $60 less!

Here are some facts and differences between them, the differences being minor (the E version actually has updated controllers) You will also find great OC'ing tips and guides on there. Xmisery's guide to 4Ghz is a good start but note what he says about it being a starting point, and every cpu chip is different.

With the stuff you are getting I would suggest going with a full-tower case. Haf-x (or 932, if you want the cheaper one) will work...IMO not a big fan of the antec cases You dont need a sound card. If you think you may add another 480 in the future I would probably go more on the PSU side, preferrable 900> if you can afford it Not a fan of the keyboard/mouse combo (and bestbuy, for that matter) but they are serviceable.

Your pc build there is pretty sweet.I don't know that a sound card is completely necessary but it's your choice. Also, as long as you know the down sides of the gtx 480 (power, cost, heat) then you should be just fine. I'd suggest spending the extra money so that you can afford one of the aftermarket cooled and overclocked versions of the gtx 480. Like the zotac AAMP gtx 480 or the inno3d hawk. Also, you have to absolutely make sure that the motherboard you're buying has enough slots for all your pci/pci-express cards you're putting in since you haven't specified a motherboard there.

you have an amazing build only problem i have with your build is the soundcard. I don't think you need the sound card because the motherboard sound card are usually 7.1 HD audio with 8 channels. It'll save you some money, weight, power, and space. The other problem I see is the split buying decisions from bestbuy and newegg. Why wouldn't you buy it all from newegg or bestbuy? And the price is ridiculous at 2500$ This looks like a dream build...

Oh and do you really need Windows 7 Professional? Get the home version of Windows 7 64 bit and save yourself some money!

mouthforbathory

Not sure that Windows 7 Home has XP Compatibility mode. I know Professional does. Might want to check that out if you want to run older stuff, although for the most part I don't need to run anything in XP mode with my Windows Pro.
