Sweet deal... Why wouldn't you pick it up? It seems to have been relatively well received by critics as well. How have the old school Lucas Arts fans been enjoying it?
I dunno... I don't think it's worth it. I think I'll wait til it goes down a few dollars... like -$5 or -$10. (Seriously though, while free is a no-brainer... I'd rather just replay one of the classic Monkeys)
Everyone must play it. I would even recommend getting the second episode as it is the best one, very funny and faithful to the spirit of the classic games. You will dislike the control method at first, but after a while you don't mind it. The graphics may seem simplistic, but in motion they are really good. The animation is well made and funny and the music is likeable. The humour is pretty good, especially in Episode 2. Aaar, Just download it!
C'mon, people. This is a free episode. There's no reason not to download it for free tomorrow. Share this info with your friends, so more people play it. If after that you like it you may buy the full season and support Monkey Island and adventure games. You'll surely enjoy it.

I'm interested but are there any catches to it? Like it says "one day only", so... you have to sign up during that day but the game itself will be playable even afterwards, right?

The catch is that you will probably like it enough to buy the rest of the episodes. At least that's the plan behind it. No need to get suspicious. It's just a form of advertisement.

I'm having some serious issues with it. First it took about half an hour to finish installing and now it's refusing to unlock the game - just been hanging there for about 15 minutes.

Say what! I have Windows Live, Rockstar's Social Club, and Steam on my system already - there's no way I'm putting yet another third party application on my computer just to play a demo. Thank god I didn't install that. This is the reason I panicked over my recent D2D download of Riddick. I didn't want more startup crap being installed on my computer. (D2D, by the way, keeps it clean, and doesn't install third party nonsense on your system. Just so you know.)

@Charles_Dickens: you do know Steam can be disabled from start-up, yes?
File menu > Settings > Interface > "Run Steam when Windows starts" (remove tick/checkmark)

Which part of "it's not a demo, it's a full episode" did you not understand? You only log in one time to unlock the game by the way. There's no "startup crap" involved. If you don't want the game that's cool but stop spreading nonsense. Thanks.
Well I've only heard good things about this game - but I think I'll pass on the demo, or the free episode, or whatever you want to call it. I'll probably just buy the whole thing one day when it goes on sale on Steam. Sight unseen, I think it's worthy of my money.
Well if it's like Sam And Max then it's part of a season, and the season itself is really the game. Each episode is more like a chapter of a game than an over-all game.
