I just installed and found I'm presently unable to use joystick controls for COD4. I can't imagine spending $50 on a state-of-the-art game these days and being limited to only keyboard and mouse use - especially when gaming consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3) offer similar games which offerjoystick controls.

Can anyone help me enable joystick controls for COD4 so I can bring the game play into the 21st century please?

Keyboard + Mouse FTW...seriously...I will never understand using a joystick for a PC FPS. Anyways you can pick up a PC 360 controller atone at your local electronics stores if you must.

You would be so much better off using mouse and keyboard

Yeah, joysticks are a step BACKWARDS in FPS games. Sure they work, but on the consoles they work because it's the only option.

Mouse and keyboard give you so much more control it's not even funny. Much higher accuracy as well.

I'm a console gamer and am just wondering why the mouse keyboard combo is more accurate and better than a joystick. I know it is i am just wondering why? (i dont have any experience with it)

^Finer control.

They both allow a much finer control over your aim, movement etc. If you ever have an option to play an FPS with either a mouse+keyboard, or something else (controller/joystick), choose the mouse+keyboard.

console fps often have auto-aim. with pc, it's not necessary - in fact, it's just a distraction, cuz sometimes you want to go for a headshot; sometimes you want to go for the legs; sometimes, you want to go for the body, which you can't do with auto-aim. that should tell you all you need to know about keyboard + mouse being more accurate than joystick in an fps.

Level 1 user with 1 post. ScottyMurf just sounds like a console gamer trying to start something here. If we just ignore him, maybe he'll go away

cod 4 pc doesn't support controllers out of the box by the looks of things.

so you'll need a program that maps the joystick/gamepad buttons to keyboard buttons

Thanks for the insight and the ideas, everyone (except one of you). I have a few PC games for which I've beenusing a gamepad and I enjoy the experience better. It's just a personalpreference. And when I do need to do some tricky aiming in a FPS I will use the mouse as I've found it to be more responsive and accurate in that capacity. I find with the gamepad, keyboard and mouse,I can kick some serious ass in whatever I play.

And to the smartass who pigeon-holed me as a console gamer and hopes that I'll go away if everyone ignores me, let's take a look at a couple of things here, OK?

Computers were designed with home computing in mind. And despite the evolution of GUI, keyboards still exist for typing words and numbers and mice exist primarily to support GUI functions. PC gamesare stillan after thought. That's why in order to play all these nifty games many of us need extra processors and upgraded video cards and such. PCs exist and function plenty without PC games, but PC games need a PC

Gaming consoles are designed specifically for a gaming experience and they come from the factory with controllers and not keyboards and mice. They come with everything they need for regular gaming. The controls are ergonomically contoured for best gaming functionality and a more natural experience. Gamepads and joysticks are the norm for most people.

So let's not treat me like I'm the weird one, OK?

Thanks again to everyone else here. I'm sure the rest of you are all very nice mature people.

You expect people to be nice with a comment like this? Sounds like a troll to me.

Kind of funny that the mouse and kb werent originally designed for gaming and yet are more effecient than controllers which are specifically designed for gaming.

The console versions of COD dont have leaning because the controllers dont have enough buttons. You cant even change weapons or reload without having to take your thumb off the turn stick.
