Hey, I'm thinking about buying this rig:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, 3.16Ghz, 6Mb Cache

RAM: 2GB DDR2 800MHz

GPU:Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4850, 512Mb DDR3, 256Bit, HDMI, PCI Express 2.0 (thinking about buying another one for Crossfire, is it possible?)

So, is it good? it's pretty cheap (around 1200$). Do you recommend buying it? Do you need and more information?

it is cheap for a pre-build, but if you make it your self you will save even more money

No, I don't recommend, it's hugely overpriced. Build one yourself and for that money you will have a much better pc.

You will not be able to crossfire with that motherboard (Only one PCI x16 slot). It's not a bad computer but you could build a better one yourself for cheaper, with a better case, better psu, better cooling, etc.

Yes, but for crossfire a motherboard with x38/x48 chipset is better.

Why would someone want a MicroATX motherboard in an ATX case? I'd try to take down an angry rhinosceros with a spork before I'd even allow a MicroATX motherboard installed in an ATX case within a 5 mile radius of my house.

I mean really, you say he should get a $60 keyboard but you turn around and tell him to buy a gimped motherboard?

The following motherboard types are the only acceptable motherboards one is to purchase:

P35 (if you're poor)

P45 (if you don't want to Crossfire but want something nice)

X38

X48 (If you've got money to burn)

You obviously dont know anything about that motherboard. Try reading some reviews on it. K?

To the TC, if you get the mATX motherboard, make sure whatever videocard you get is single sloted.

If it was made of solid gold, did my laundry for me, and paid me to use it... I still would shun it. It's too small. And there's a reason beyond it's small size it's cheap. Everything on MicroATX boards is crammed so close together that the heatsink will be kissing every other part on or attached to the motherboard. Horrible for cooling.

But especially jarring is the fact that you reccommended he spend money on a high end keyboard, and a low end motherboard, in the same post. That's like telling someone to buy a Ford Fiesta and put racing wheels on it. Or hiring a midget bodyguard when you could get Andre the Giant. It makes no sense.

Is that prebuilt or something ?? its waaaaaay expensive for the parts you are getting.. Heck, the mobo is out-dated now.. try to build one your self better, the parts you listed are good but change the cooler to something else..

And if you are thinking about Crossfire in the future especially about 4870 then i would get PSU with higher than 700w

Don't knock P45. I've got the Gigabyte P45 DS3 and that can crossfire.

Was not aware calling something nice was knocking... But the remark about the Crossfire refers to P45 motherboards with dual PCI-E x16 ports, despite this, only Crossfire at x8/x8.

No, I knowyou were not saying the P45 motherboards are bad, just you seemed to imply that P45s are incapable of crossfiring. Crossfire at 8+8 is still efffective.
