I recently built my own gaming rig for around 600 that maxes out every game on the market.(EVGA 8800gt 512, antholon X2E660+ @ 3.0Ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram) and now that its all said and done, it really seems like theres nothing that made this uprgrade even half way worth it, i have plenty of games for it, STALKER,WITCHER,COH,CRYSIS,BIOSHOCK,MORROWIND,OBLIVION, and of course BROOD WAR.

the only problem is this none of these games are really even that good imo

STALKER-pretty good actually one of the better of the list but outdoor enviorments mkae my eyes bleed

WITCHER-watch zero punctions review and it about sums up my feelings for it http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2831-Zero-Punctuation-The-Witcher

Company of Heroes- the best new game i have gotten, only the fanbase is extraemly samll (3000 online at once :/)

CRYSIS - definatley beautiful, but it feels like far cry 1.5 and far cry wasnt that good

BIOSHOCK - great game, but already had it for 360, and the graphical diffrences are not worth another play thorugh since their so minute

OBLIVION - I despise this game, auto leveleing, random dungoens, auto armor ERG BAd GAME

MORROWIND - GREAT GREAT GAME, only problem is i could run it 5 years ago

BROOD WAR - Best RTS ever made, love it to death, all other rtss seem to pale in comparision which suts out about 70% of pc exclsuive games :/

Now dont get me wrong ive always been an advocate of PC gaming, but it seems like i just wasted 600 doallers that i could of sepnt for games on my 360/wii.

Please suggest titles that make pc gmaing the greatness I have always known, and please help me realize i didnt waste 600$

P.S. I have the orange box for 360 (loved it to death, every minute)

It is a good game, its just ive put about 80+ hours into the 360 version and while playing the pc version, it just feels like a slightly imprved version of the same game (which it is) and 5 maps get really boring after 80 hours

Well it seems like the new PC exclusives don't float your boat that much. I guess thats the tradeoff of having multiple platforms and having played many of the good ones on 360 already. I could try to recommend you other PC games but it seems you're still head over heels for brood war so just keep enjoying that and stop trolling.

Your opinions seem heavily weighted towards being entirely subjective and don't sound like you approached any of these games objectively.

Try Morrowind with Connary's mods and distant land (MGE). Also try out FPS optimizer for MW. With these apps and mods you'll need all the power your GPU can offer. And the game looks phenomenal.

Have you played Cod 4? Great game, not an exclusive, but the PC version is better than the 360 version imo. Especially with a strong GPU.

Thats actually a good idea, i had it for a while on 360 but i founf it to be too fast paced for a gamepad, cod 4 sounds like a great mouse and key board game, also is BF3 coming out soon? if nto i will buy BF2.

The upgrade wasn't necessary for Morrowind, but try playing Crysis from a rig from 5 years ago. It's not the game's fault that it came out 6 years ago.

I want to know how long you've played Witcher, STALKER, and Crysis because if you only played those games for an hour or two than you're not giving the games a chance.

STALKER is a visually amazing game that has its own unique styIe that is meant to be visually gritty, desolate and offensive.

Don't you have an opinion? Do you have any specific examples of the problems? Yahtzee's "reviews" are generally heavily satirical and are not reliable for sourcing as an "opinion."

Crysis is different than Far Cry, if you have actually played it, you would have noticed this.

If you're looking for recent games to regain your faith with, there aren't any.

The only recent games you haven't got there are Sins of a Solar Empire, Sam and Max Season 1 and The Orange Box (considerably better on PC, and if you give the 360 version 10/10, the PC version must be about 25/10).

Most of the best PC games - besides the ones you mentioned - are from 1998 to 2005, and since you don't have your collection on your GameSpot profile, it's hard to tell what you do and don't have, and what you do and don't like.

There's your problem right there. The Witcher takes time getting into. The first chapter can be tedious but after the first chapter it becomes an extraordinary RPG.

Give the game a real shot instead of using an unreliable Zero Punctuation opinion as your own opinion.

Yahtzee's "reviews" are generally heavily satirical and are not reliable for sourcing as an "opinion." yes i have an oppinion but if you actually saw that review it sums my oppinion up of it, the game trys to be deeper then it allows itself to be, the combat is simplistic(but so is morrowinds so ill forgive it) the story starts out strong but the majority of the quests seem to have little or nothing to do with the main plot, the game is pretty ill give it that, How long is it? im not sure how long i can do meaningless tasks

NO its really not all that diffrent, its basically far cry with a biosuit which mkaes it fun for a while, but also a bit too easy, also the AI is slightly buggier then far cry, waht i hadnt noticed was the multipler of crysis which is surprisngly deep.

Thanx for the suggestions, I bookmarked them.

Have you played Gothic 3? If not, I think you'll like it. Great atmosphere, waaay better game than Oblivion.

I do have to agree with Mfsa though. With a few exceptions there's not much worth the upgrade... I play new games from time to time, but mostly I'm trying to catch up on things I did not have time to play in the past. I suggest you do the same. Most of my favourite games are from '99-'05.

Just have a little patience, a lot of great games on the horizon like Project Origin, Dragon Age, Mass Effect for PC (which looks to be the superior version), FarCry 2, Gothic 3-expansion, Starcraft 2 (if you're into RTS games) + many more.

I dont know about DOW, but i do know that coh has been plauged with balance issues since launch, something you cant say about any blizzard rts, and yes you might enjoy relic rtses more now, but wait unitl we can compare them to something blizzard made that isnt ten years old.

Oh, you definitely need to play the Gothic-series! You don't need to play the first two to enjoy the third, but I recommend that you do it anyway.

If you want some eye-candy (I know I did when I got my GTX) try out Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Hitman: Blood Money, FEAR + the first expansion, Dirt, Assassin's Creed for the PC and Quake 4.

The outdoor ones are quite good. I myself find the indoor ones to be quite bland and recycled. Its just dark walls with a bunch of rubble everywhere. How much of the game did you play?

I noticed you didn't play more than 3 hours of the game. Playing only 3 hours of a 50 hour game isn't enough to make a proper decision about it. It isn't everyone's cup of tea but it is a fantastic role-playing game.

NO its really not all that diffrent, its basically far cry with a biosuit which mkaes it fun for a while, but also a bit too easy, also the AI is slightly buggier then far cry, waht i hadnt noticed was the multipler of crysis which is surprisngly deep.

Well ill definatley look into the gothic seris then as you did love morrowind as well, so you must know waht your tlaking about, already played fear, actually really enjoyed the horror elememts, adn yes you are correct im llokg for some visually stunning games, hence crysis :p , but yes Assasins creed looks AMAZING doesnt it? i dont understand why no one gives it at least graphical credit as imo that game is second only to crysis in graphical quality.

I have to agree with the OP. Not much has come out recently that's worthy of an upgrade. I spent around $1200 on the rig in my sig about a year and a half ago, and to some extent I feel like I wasted my money. I wasn't blown away by Crysis, Bioshock, or Supreme Commander the way I was expecting. They were all good, but certainly nothing spectacular. The Orange Box, COD4, and Sins of a Solar Empire are fantastic and must-haves, but they aren't particularly intensive and would have probably run fine on my last PC (P4 2.8 Northwood, 2GB DDR400, X800Pro).

[QUOTE="PyroPice"] like i said good game dont hate me because the outdoor envirmeant dont live up to indoor onesfoxhound_fox

The outdoor ones are quite good. I myself find the indoor ones to be quite bland and recycled. Its just dark walls with a bunch of rubble everywhere. How much of the game did you play?

yes i have an oppinion but if you actually saw that review it sums my oppinion up of it, the game trys to be deeper then it allows itself to be, the combat is simplistic(but so is morrowinds so ill forgive it) the story starts out strong but the majority of the quests seem to have little or nothing to do with the main plot, the game is pretty ill give it that, How long is it? im not sure how long i can do meaningless tasksPyroPice

PyroPice

Try playing on Delta.

1. quite a bit, i think im about to beat it

2.maybe your right, but the general conception of the gaming community (at least reviewers) is that my first imppresions are correct

3.I did.I always play the hardest setting first thing (which made me cry in COD4, how can someone possibly have that many grenades? lol)

On the bright side, you did buy at a time when hardware prices are incredibly low. I've never seen ram or video cards this cheap.

And I don't think your money is entirely wasted. You say you loved Broodwar, so you should be in heaven when StarCraft 2 comes out. I loved StarCraft too. It's my favorite RTS of all time aside from Total Annihilation.

is medevil 2 a TBS? because i actually love thosePyroPice

Its a mix of TBS and RTS, you build troops, cities etc in TBS, and whenever you go into Battle you can play it in RTS with amazing Graphics and Troop Numbers. Theres tons of Factions to choose from, especially with the Expansion which also adds a lot more Depth to the Campaigns.

So what exactly are you looking for? Do you even know? You say you're looking for games, then give examples of games you say aren't even "that good imo", yet you also describe some of them as "pretty good" "best new game i have gotten" "great game" "GREAT GREAT GAME" and "Best RTS ever made, love it to eath".

So if you're looking for new games because you just want to show off your rig get

-Supreme Commander

-World in Conflict

-Sins of a Solar Empire

-COD4

-TF2 again

-Wait, why don't you do your own research..? I'll start you out, Here and here

Then its going to be hard for you to find games that challenge you. :P STALKER on "Master" is masochistic though.

For a really good challenge, I suggest getting the old Doom games (Doom Complete Pack is best value for money spent) and using Skulltag to run it and play on Nightmare. There really isn't anything more difficult when it comes to shooters than Doom Nightmare... and with Skulltag you get all the modern shooter amenities like free-aim, jumping, crouching and the like. I still have problems making it past the opening levels in both Doom and Doom II.

A simple "Recommend some games, here are my specs" thread would have been sufficient. You sound like you're trying to bring attention to yourself, or worse, trolling.

You hit the wall called "stagnation of gaming", my condolences.

I hit mine in 2004 and by now I am no longer gaming even though I've been a gamer since 1986 LOL. When my last GFX card set out, I downgraded my pc.

You didn't waste your money, exactly, but you should have waited another year before building a new comp. I have high hopes for the future you see. APB, Left 4 dead, GTA IV on pc (hopefully) and Prototype. Good news is you have the comp for them.

PyroPice

actually i think bishock of 360 is no match for the bioshock of PC

i get about 70-80 fps with max and i can say it is a great game

on 360 i didnt play it that much

also all the games u have are great but get some good Multiplayer games like TF2 etc

TF2 just rox my world

Have you played Gothic 3? If not, I think you'll like it. Great atmosphere, waaay better game than Oblivion.

artur79

Gothic 3 was an epic fail. EPIC FAIL. Not only was the quests extremely bland but the combat was so horrid I felt like bashing my monitor over orcs in the game.

OP you mentioned Total War series, i can thouroughly recommend all of those games (especially Rome and Medieval 2). they are an awesome mix of 4X and RTS i have sunk so many hours into those. Empire: TW is out late '08 i think, set in the napoleonic era with full on naval combat as well as land combat it looks AMAZING.

also you have Sins of a solar - you have to play that game its excellent. the upcoming expansion is adding a campaign too.

also Age of Empires 3 is a good RTS game that hasnt been mentioned i dont think, and mount and blade, for something a bit different is also good. its still only a Beta but final edition due late 08 i think

My suggestion (and my apologies if I missed it somewhere in the thread) is letting people know what games do you find so great on the 360 and Wii?? What are you really looking for? List out some more. Maybe you actually want games that don't appeal to most PC gamers --- not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm absolutely enjoying gaming right now, IMO it's a awesome time to a PC gamer! I agree there is a lull at the moment in releases, not unexpected btw. Any interest in Assassin's Creed, or RBSV2, played them yet? This is actually fine though, gives me a chance to catch my breath, I know I certainly haven't played through everything!! :D There's alot of goodness ahead this year.

My word man, if you can not find fun in any of these games, then i suggest you d/l or create a game engine and put your own story into your own world and sell it to billions of unsatisfied game players like yourself.

Try Morrowind with Connary's mods and distant land (MGE). Also try out FPS optimizer for MW. With these apps and mods you'll need all the power your GPU can offer. And the game looks phenomenal.

artur79

Should I install Connary's Texture Packs or MGE first?
