Seriously, you do realize Yahtzee is satirical and he may actually love the Witcher, eh?

You got Orange Box on 360? Your loss man.

Why are you docking Morrowind for being able to "run it 5 years ago"? Why aren't you complaining about that with Starcraft?

This evidence really does show you're a console gamer. Be more open minded,

I was actually thnking about dowloading that, so their hard eh? good to know, defaintley osmething ill do this summer, you want a real cahllenge though? try playing fear on hardest difficuulty without the slow mo power(except when actaully needed) it made me want to cry lolPyroPice

Never in my life have I come across something as brutal and masochistic as Doom on Nightmare. When it says: "Are you sure? This skill level isn't even remotely fair." It is completely underestimating the challenge that you are about to face. Not only do all the enemies do insane amounts of damage (Shotgun Guys, basic grunts, can kill you in 3-4 hits from 100% health)... there is more of them than any other level of difficulty AND they respawn after about a minute.

If you don't regain faith, please advise of a sale price for your rig.

Coz y'see, I have faith, but not the monstrous rig. Maybe there's something in that.

Well it sounds like you have no idea what a good game is. Most games from the 360 are eventually ported to the PC, and there are many great exclusives as well. I've zoomed through Crysis 2 times now, and I am close to beating it on a third campagin. I'll probably play it again!

You have to give The Witcher time. It starts to get more fun in Chapter II, but it seems like your too impatient to play for more than 2 minutes and then trash it.

What the hell where you expecting with Bioshock? Its a Story Driven FPS. Not an RPG. It has minor RPG elements, like choosing which Plasminds/Tonic you want to deck out, as well as some moral choices.

You should probably give up gaming if you dont even like the games you listed. They are all great, and the fact that you like hardly any of them is....wierd...really wierd, actually, to tell you the truth. You could enjoy the same games on the 360, but with crashes, unreliable hardware and un-changeable graphics options. Compared to the PC, it sucks. Or, you could play the same games on the PC and get even more enjoyment out of it.

You seem to be judging these games based on what they are lacking, and not based on how much fun they are. Buy, hey, obviously you dont like them, so thats too bad. But I cant help you there.

Try Morrowind with Connary's mods and distant land (MGE). Also try out FPS optimizer for MW. With these apps and mods you'll need all the power your GPU can offer. And the game looks phenomenal.

RK-Mara

Should I install Connary's Texture Packs or MGE first?

Sorry, but it's been a while since I installed MGE and any mods. A year ago, I think...

I don't think MGE interferes with graphical mods, but just to be sure, install MGE first, allow distant land and DX9 features See if that works. Then see if one of Connary's mods works, if it does, continue to install the rest.

You're right, you didn't have to get that rig, you could've gotten a cheaper rig and still be able to play all those games well, except for Crysis and a few others where you'd have to lower some settings.

you're not the only one who's been disappointed, i've had a friend who was a true console gamer (never played proper games on the PC before) but was drooling at crysis recently and bought a 8800 gt for his pc and the game right away, and now he complains how it was a waste and that all crysis is good for is grpahics, and that COD4 on the console is far more superior in terms of gameplay and multiplayer. now he doesn't want to buy any more pc games, and plans on selling or returning his game and the card. so at least you're trying,i give you credit for that.

personally, the RTSs and RPGs allow me to keep faith in PC games.

you probably won't regain much faith by playing games that are really recent, as you may have found out. but the future looks promising, as some of the posts here have mentioned.

witcher starts out badly TC....id give it more time before giving up. act 2 is where it starts to pick up.

also try medieval 2 total war (or rome..personally i prefer rome for some reason..but there both great).

sins of a solar empire is also great. it lacks a campaign but skirmish matches even agaisnt the CPU are great. i had a 5 hour session with that game....thats extreemly rare for me

supreme commander is very good but absolutely exhausting. great game though

guild wars is great fun and, although u have to play it online, u can play on ure own ir with ppl..whatever suits.

trackmania united is brilliant online also...lots of great tracks made by the community. its ok offline but online is where its really strong. think fzero....only crazier.

uve probably also played alot of the classics like freespace 1 and 2, baldurs gate 1 and 2, giants citizen kabuto, KOTOR and deus ex 1 amongst others.

if u get steam then u can find a load of other games that might interest u also.

Ok please keep up with the thread, i did not say i did not like the witcher due to yahtzess review, I said the things he pointed out were really how I (me) felt about the game, i provided a link, please use it.

Im not docking morrowind, I LOVE THAT GAME, but it cannot count as a game that i upgraded for since i could run it 5 years ago(same with SC)

I understand that not everyone here seems to liek me :/ , I belive I have said numerous times taht there are quite a few games i am going to try out, I actually loved bioshock (and system shock 2, im a PC GAMER DAM*IT!) but i had already been able to play it on 360 is waht i was saying, and the minor graphics provided by DX10 arent much incentive to play it again, yeah that seems to be the consesus though, i will try and give the witcher more time

My suggestion (and my apologies if I missed it somewhere in the thread) is letting people know what games do you find so great on the 360 and Wii?? What are you really looking for? List out some more. Maybe you actually want games that don't appeal to most PC gamers --- not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm absolutely enjoying gaming right now, IMO it's a awesome time to a PC gamer! I agree there is a lull at the moment in releases, not unexpected btw. Any interest in Assassin's Creed, or RBSV2, played them yet? This is actually fine though, gives me a chance to catch my breath, I know I certainly haven't played through everything!! :D There's alot of goodness ahead this year.

you realize the two games you suggested can both be found on the 360 and therefore would not warrant an upgrade to my PC? I actaully mention quite a few games that i do enjoy, alot, aso any suggestions of giving up gaming are entirely unfounded.

console games i enjoy? Zelda,metroid,gears(MPonly),GH,RE4,and soon to be GTA4 (Re4 was a terrible pc port btw, and gears is just about the same thing, i guess my pc finally can run the ridulous spec for GH on pc though :p)

Heya,

First off, don't take the occational barbs from other posters too personal, we get dragged into the 'console wars' here as well, and as such some people tend get defensive if they feel like their perfered platform is being 'attacked'. It's not really you or your post, it's just the general feeling us vs them these days.

As for our dilemma about the PC as a gaming platform. A lot of the games that come out nowadays, especially the big budget FPS / Action titles are going to be cross platform. The area where the PC really shine compared to other platforms is the type of game that just dosent play too well on consoles. I'd worry less about graphics. While a high end PC can out do a PS3 or X360 in visuals it's not really going to give you any lasting satisfaction or make you feel like your money was all that well spend.

As for specific games that (for me) make the PC stand out.. Well you've already heard the praise for Total War: Medieval 2, Command and Conquer 3 might be a fun game. Its really all about the retro RTS feel but with modern graphics and so on. It's not the level of quality as CoH but it's still a fun solid game if your into RTS's. As also mentioned earlier, World in Conflict does a grat job of picturing modern warfare. It does a good job of refreshing the RTS genere by shifting forcus away from base building and unit traning and shifting it to controling units and using combined arms. Well worth playing. If you havent already, Civilization 4 is a must for a strategy fan. It's not top end graphics but it's visuals are clean and colorful and it's still arguably one of the best games ever made.

Another strength of the PC is of course the mods. You mention the various elements you disliked about oblivian, get the mods and change the game to suit your prefereces. The same holds true for a lot of the games mentioned here. Heck if you want a real PC only challange, get a level editor for the Halflife 2 or Unreal 3 engines and get crackin'

Anyways. Don't dispair over your purchase. Focus on finding some awesome games even if they dont look like crysis. Enjoy the fact that your not limmited to a controler and the potential enhancements that bring to a lot of todays games. But most importantly, kick back and have fun. If your constantly trying to decide if it's worth it you risk ending up ruining the fun for yourself :?

If you're looking for recent games to regain your faith with, there aren't any.

The only recent games you haven't got there are Sins of a Solar Empire, Sam and Max Season 1 and The Orange Box (considerably better on PC, and if you give the 360 version 10/10, the PC version must be about 25/10).

Most of the best PC games - besides the ones you mentioned - are from 1998 to 2005, and since you don't have your collection on your GameSpot profile, it's hard to tell what you do and don't have, and what you do and don't like.

mfsa

So true, the classics are the way to go. 1998 Activisions BatlleZone, best game ever. I play more games for 1998 to 2005, excluding C&C3 and Kanes Wrath, than any other games.

Also, try trackmania nations/united forever. Brilliant games :).

Trackmania nations forever is free, you can get it here. United is basically the same game, except that it has 6 more environments (rally, snow, dessert, island, bay, coast) in addition to the stadium environment from nations. Each environment also has its own car.

Honestly I think the people trashing the topic creator about not enjoying the witcher after 3 hours is unreasonable. A game shouldn't take that much time to get into, it should be able to suck you in right away. If you got the time to play a game that your not enjoying that much, more power to you, but to trash someone saying that you need to spend 6+ hours to get into a game is silly.

I recently built my own gaming rig for around 600 that maxes out every game on the market.(EVGA 8800gt 512, antholon X2E660+ @ 3.0Ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram) and now that its all said and done, it really seems like theres nothing that made this uprgrade even half way worth it, i have plenty of games for it, STALKER,WITCHER,COH,CRYSIS,BIOSHOCK,MORROWIND,OBLIVION, and of course BROOD WAR.

the only problem is this none of these games are really even that good imo

STALKER-pretty good actually one of the better of the list but outdoor enviorments mkae my eyes bleed

WITCHER-watch zero punctions review and it about sums up my feelings for it http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2831-Zero-Punctuation-The-Witcher

Company of Heroes- the best new game i have gotten, only the fanbase is extraemly samll (3000 online at once :/)

CRYSIS - definatley beautiful, but it feels like far cry 1.5 and far cry wasnt that good

BIOSHOCK - great game, but already had it for 360, and the graphical diffrences are not worth another play thorugh since their so minute

OBLIVION - I despise this game, auto leveleing, random dungoens, auto armor ERG BAd GAME

MORROWIND - GREAT GREAT GAME, only problem is i could run it 5 years ago

BROOD WAR - Best RTS ever made, love it to death, all other rtss seem to pale in comparision which suts out about 70% of pc exclsuive games :/

Now dont get me wrong ive always been an advocate of PC gaming, but it seems like i just wasted 600 doallers that i could of sepnt for games on my 360/wii.

Please suggest titles that make pc gmaing the greatness I have always known, and please help me realize i didnt waste 600$

P.S. I have the orange box for 360 (loved it to death, every minute)

you realize the two games you suggested can both be found on the 360 and therefore would not warrant an upgrade to my PC? I actaully mention quite a few games that i do enjoy, alot, aso any suggestions of giving up gaming are entirely unfounded.

Ugh, maybe it's too early in the morning, but I'm not following :P I was only suggesting some recent games that perhaps you haven't yet played, which you may enjoy on your nice new rig, and may help "justify" your purchase in your eyes.

I prefer multi-platform games on the PC over consoles virtually every single time. In fact, with an FPS such as RBSV how could using a kb+m for aiming not be more fun? ;) In addition, I know RBSV1 was fairly unoptimized, yet I don't care what anyone tells me, I played both and it still looked better on my PC than on the 360! I would think you could easily enjoy RBSV2 on your PC. Assassin's Creed? That baby is again going on my PC.

Besides crappy LIVE, why was Gears such a bad port for you? It ran terrific for myself. The game itself is a different story -- it was OK, but I found it had unexpectedly simplistic gameplay and a bit overrated. Yeah, I have GH for the PC also...runs without a hitch, although I have to say I found myself less than enamored with such a game.

Also, I wasn't suggesting you give up gaming. Those were alot of great PC games (IMO) that you didn't like, trying to get to the root issue here LOL Psychology 101. Maybe there's something about console games that appeals to you more.

Btw - don't worry, everyone here likes you....deep down.

oh i didnt mean gears was a bad port, i just meant it was the same as the 360 version so to own both woud be supeflous. It seems i have enough games to buy to keep me occupied, thank everyone for their contributions!
