While Quake 3 Arena was fun, i was disapointed in the shift away from a single player campaign and making it primarily multiplayer.. since then ive been even more disapointed.. Doom3.. the atmosphere was lacking and was not scary at all. It was too obvious where a creature would jump out from and i found it to hard to get into the game. Compared to other FPS games at the time, Doom3 doesn't compare.
I used to be a HUGE fan of ID back during the original Doom, Heretic and all the old FPS games.. so many great memories..
ID really hasn't done much in a long time. They used to be pioneers in the FPS genre but as the genre became more advanced their game development skills kinda stayed the same. See doom3...
But they are still a great dev house that focuses more on the technology side of things. Carmack is working on their new engine and it's looking to be killer. Can't wait for that
Quake 4 was just a boring, generic fps, like doom III. Sure, i finished it, but i sometimes wonder why. Is Quake wars alot better? Because if it's not, i think i'll give up on ID.Head_Psychosis
Quake wars isnt quake...People see the quake name and think it's some sort of continuation of the series. It isnt.
It's sort of a sequal to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Enemy territory is it's own series of games, this version just has a quake face on it. And it isnt developed by ID

Holy crap, i never noticed that! i knew it wasn't part of the story. Its like Battlfield in the Quake universe, but i didn't realise it wasn't developed by ID.
My apologies. So technically the last thing they did was Q4.

Yup, id hasn't made a game since doom 3. Raven did quake, nerve somehitng did the d3 resurrection of evil, and splash damage developed quake wars. Doom 3 was a great game, although it didnt show off id's full potential. Their new Rage game on their new engine does look awesome though.Vote No.
They were surpassed a LONG time ago in the gameplay department of the FPS genre....and they are no longer the kings of the Graphics and Engine department, they lost that crown back in 2004.
I mean, are Id Software's games or even engines talked about anymore?....not so much or even at all.
Back in the 90's, when Id Software released a game, you knew you had to have it. Doom, Quake, Quake II, and Quake III pretty much defined the industry for the time, especially in terms of engines. Back then when Id Software released a game, you just knew you had to have it.
Id Software were the king of the heap back in the 90's and even up to 2000....but now they pretty much feel off.
Even the buzz for their games isn't as high as it was before, I mean, have you been hearing much hype for Rage? I haven't.
No surprise, since it didn't look like anything special in the first place, especially since Rage probably won't be appearing till 2009. Already Crysis gives it a run for it's money in the visuals department from what we've seen so far. I mean, when we first caught a glimpse of Id Software Tech 5, it didn't look all that far ahead of UE3 which had already released back in 2006, and it certainly doesn't look better then Crysis which was already released....and Id Software has never been one to deliver deep or innovative gameplay.
Id Software pretty much lost their luster, especially after they started focusing on console hardware as a development foundation......and I have a feeling Epic is going down the same path.
It really looks as if going forward Valve and Crytek are now thing kings of the genre, especially in terms of taking visuals to the next level over the long term.
One word for you: RageForerunner-117
the Rage looked awesome, but I stopped banking my trust in stage demos a long time ago. If rage was coming out in 6 months I might give it the benefit of the doubt, but since it's released isn't even tagged for 08 then I really doubt it's going to live up to expectations. 3 years is a long time in the game industry, and by the time ID releases rage all those ideas, and all that tech will be old hat giving rage really nothing to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack.

idk. crysis was hyped for over 3 years, and it hasn't lost its luster. i think rage will bring something new to the table, either graphically or in terms of gameplay. i still have faith in id.

Yeah I can see both sides of the argument. Although, it is gonna have some post-apocalyptic competition from Fallout 3 and Borderlands ;) *Sigh* Man I love post-apocalyptic stuff so '08 for me is gonna rock :D

Wurd! Yeah man Borderlands is up there on my anticipated titles list with Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3 and Rage.
I really liked Doom 3 with mods and coop. I still voted ''No, Quake III Arena was their last good game'' :/
