Halo is a great game. It's halo 2 that is grossly overrated, and soon the same will ahppen for halo 3. The games graphics look almost no better than halo 2's for crying out loud. onemic
But isn't that a bit encouraging, considering that means more resources are being spent on making the game fun, instead of just pretty?
I hope you guys are kidding.
The Halo series is amazing. Halo 2's online was and still is simply amazing. Halo 2 online play consumed those who played it. No other game has the same teamwork and communication in every game. Play any other game (BF series, Counter Strike) and it takes effort to find people to work with you as a team and that have mics to communicate with you. Halo is simply amazing that it takes no effort, to start a game get a team or automatch and begin to have fun. Online computer games require you to get vent, along with a mic, along with signing up on clan forums and then getting into your squad at the same time. It simply gets annoying to take that much effort to get a group effort to win a game. With the Halo serious want some team work find some good people from a few match made games and get playing.
What the fudge are you talking about? Halo was a fun game for me, and I agree with the guy who posted how easy it is to get set-up. I can't believe you guys are really saying its an overrated game. You want to know what I hate the most? all these 10 year old kids that skateboard and play xbox askin you "have you played halo? Have you played Halo?" when it was meant to be a big PC game, not an xbox game before it came out

That's what people would think , but look at these "crazy" trailers that they've been releasing where the devs try their hardest to talk about some new innovative aspect to the MP. Anyone can read through the bs and tell it's practically unchanged. Even looking at the recent gameplay vids show that it's practically unchanged with just the addition of some new (and old) weapon models and some pretty ugly graphics. Last year when people first saw the games graphics you could give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's almost 100% likely now with that new gameplay trailer that those graphics will be present in the BETA. If that's indeed true then there's an extremely high chance that those graphics will in fact be what you see in the retail game.
Halo when it came out was great. It was the only game you played with friends and at lan partys. It was pretty basic but the way the game moved and the easy interface controls and motions made it great and easy playing. Single-player was great and awsome in co-op. The game in my opinion is also still one of the best looking on x-box till halo 2 and farcry came out.
As for Halo-2 I was disapointed. I really don't care for dual wields since you can throw grenades nor switch quicky between weapons. But it still was fun to play.
Halo 3 thank god is bringing back my favorite weapon. The assualt rifle. I loved taking out shields then butting them with the gun. Great fun.
the needler? for christ sake, that is the most useless weapon ever created in the history of games.shabutie9000
Ha, you've obviously never played against someone who knows how to use it.
Yes, its an extremely overrated game in terms of official reviews and in comparison to PC first-person shooters, but I feel it deserves every bit of appreciation it gets from its fans.
Why? Because the series is the best shooter the console has. While it doesnt even compare to games such as Halflife 2, Far Cry, FEAR, and even Quake 4 and Doom3, the game is none-the-less a good game on console. Add to that the extremely fun split screen deathmatch and co-op gameplay and you have a rock-solid game.
Personally, I find the Halo series to be a yawn-fest. But thats only because I am a PC gamer and am used to really good shooters, but for console its a good game.
Some of the replies make me smile.
As PC gamers, I'm sure ALL of you know that ORIGINALLY Halo was going to be developed soley for the PC. Then MS purchased Bungie and the rest is history.
I remember back then, My 4600 Ti was top of the line hardware. My friend Seth and I would talk about how awesome Halo was going to be while playing Tribes/Starcraft/CS and the like at our weekly LAN parties with Matt and the rest of the "gang". Back then Halo was what Crysis is now. It was still a ways off, but it was HIGHLY talked about and anticipated.
And you people dare to say you weren't talking about Halo back when it was in development? Psssshhhh.
As a game, sure it's definitely not a Half-Life(my fav PC FPS), but the Halo series is definitely better than that excuse called Doom 3.
So, it's not this, "OMFG so AWESOME" game, but it's pretty darn far from Over-rated or Bad. Good lead character, great storyline IMO(even though they dropped the ball a bit with Halo 2). It'll be great to finish with Halo 3 and see what else they can do with the world afterwards.
I think threads stating or asking if Halo is overated is 5 years late and infinitely overdone. You would think 5 years later some PC gamers would get over it but NOOOO.:|Pedro
Um, no, actually it is still quite relevant. Halo 2 is being released on PC pretty soon and there's another little title called Halo 3 that is being released on the Xbox 360 this year.

Halo for PC was poorly optimized. =(
I did nothing but hate on Halo constantly until I was outmanuevered into playing it.
One multiplayer session convinced me to buy an XBox in 2003. If Halo wasn't an amazing game, how could it make someone who was an anti-xbox + halo fanboy pull a complete 180?ClandestineZero
Low standards.
I have a similar situation, my friend got an X-Box for the same reason. He's also the same guy that did it with this one girl who was at least 40 with three kids, overweight, and gross in pretty much every way. He was drunk, though, but he did scream when he remembered it.
I hope you guys are kidding.

Halo is way overhyped. A good, even great game, but not legendary, not a 9.8 or whatever GS gave it. The Halo community is too full of BOOM HEADSHOT types.
even with out all teh cars and what not UT99 or quake 3 multiplayer is better than halo.
Then UT2004 and ut2007 came and did cars and planes the right way. Just about any PC shooter can run with it and the good ones make the games look average and I won't even talk about controls
Halo is something that mimics a Real PC shooter on xbox for console people who do not know better so they can think shooters are the best thing ever nothing more nothing less.
Though I do love the art story and enemy AI in single player, everything else does not live up to a PC shooter.
if you're referring to the Halo for PC, then there's no way it's overrated. look around and you'd see that the entire pc community shares the hobby of bashing Halo.
if anything it's vastly underrated.
