Not to be a Dick but isn't it kind of stupid to not buy it if it isn't on Steam? Steam is awesome and all, but can't you just get one box copy of a game, or god forbid, use another DD site. I'd prefer it to be on Steam too, but is it really worth not buying it at all?

It not being on steam means nothing. It's not like they were ever going to use Steamworks or anything. Steam would just be a stupid wrapper to play the game through.

I'm just going to get retail, easier for everybody.

Of course. No offense to anyone, but it's incredibly stupid to not buy a game you want because it's not on a single distribution service. Yeah, I'd like to have it on Steam with the rest of my games that I've gotten there, but I'm not going to deprive myself of getting and enjoying a game just because it's not on Steam. Personally, I'm either getting it on Gamersgate or just go retail and have it setting next to my Battlefield 2 box(and my 1942 box if I could ever find where it went)

No it doesn't. It shows that Valve and EA can't get along with their buisness practices.

You are so easy to forget that BF3 is DX10/11 native, supports 64 players, dedicated servers, has jets and prone (just like a true sequel to BF2 should have), and has only been shown on the PC during press events. Let's also not forget the tons of new features that would never have made it into the game if they didn't rebuild it for the PC first like the fully dynamic lighting system, bipods, suppression effects... and tons more.

Valve isn't the one with the problems here, it's EA as the sole cause of BF3 not being on Steam.

I might wait in hopes that it comes out on Steam, unless there is a great pre-order deal on Amazon. I passed on the $50 Newegg pre-order for now. Retail copies that aren't registrable on Steam are a pain in the ass.

PC is actually the developer platform. Expect PCization complaints from the console players who get inferior games because they can't handle the PC game they're playing.

It will never come out on Steam because Valve doesn't like how EA does exclusive DLC for various retailers. Simple as that.

It's not a big loss.

Should have an option for "I wasn't going to get it anyway." For me it has little to do with it being on Steam or not. It is just going to be overprice and I'm not guying it until it goes down to $30-40, if then.

Steam is only nifty for it's organization, but since you can launch games out of it's ui that aren't steam, how does it really matter? "Oh noes, I don't have achievement tracking in steam"

What's more important is that it's cheaper, and Steam is rarely the cheapest before, at, or just after release.

That was for Crysis 2 only.

EA is holding BF3 from Steam to try and gain more traffic to Origin.

It's not the sort of game you really need to wait to find out whether it's worth playing. They've shown gameplay, it's pretty much a revved up BF2 as expected.

No for me, all games are those sort of games. Hype means nothing, once they actual game is finished.

If I am to pay anywhere near $60 for it, it better give me a pretty damn good reason.

I will more than likely catch it on sale anyway.

I'm just gonna say it, if the solely reason you're not getting this is because it's not on steam, you never really cared about BF3 in the first place.

Port for PC? This is a PC game, with 64 players supported, native Direct X 11. EVERYTHING in the console versions will be scalled down: players (from 64 to 24, wow, 40 less!), size of the maps, number of vehicles, resolution, framerrate, filters, textures. Thanx for trolling, makes much easier to remark the huge lacks that the game will have in consoles.

About the topic: I will buy it at retail, day one, as with BC 2. The only thing that worries me is the map of the beta: I expect that the choice will not be Paris Metro (the E3 map) due that map is horrible and any Conquest map from the Karkand pack would be better to test the performance in 64 player servers with multiple jets on air.

Don't know why there's such a hoooo-ha that BF3 won't be on steam, loads of games aren't on steam. And games on release cost alot MORE on steam than anywhere else!! I'll be buying this at retail like I do with all my other games. The only time I buy games off steam are when they are on sale for amazing prices.

THQ the publishers of Saints Row 3 are even worse than EA when it comes to steam. I had planned on buying Saints Row 3 even had my credit card ready when Steam announced it was "available to pre-order". Then I was greated with "not available in your region" ...... I live in the damn UK for christs sake, it is available for sale retail and other DD sites in the UK but not from steam. I mean hell the game even has steam works so you have to have steam installed to play the thing.

I have since discovered that THQ has a deal with a UK retail outlet called GAME that means they cannot release their games on steam in the UK until a certain period AFTER it has launched. So since the game is "not available" in my region I can hear my wallet saying "hey guess what my money isn't available in your region either".

Naturally I am not buying Battlefield 3, I wouldn't say that the fact it isn't on steam is the major reason why I am not buying it. However it does factor into the decision, I don't support companies that use tactics to reduce my ability to CHOOSE where I want to buy my games from.

Better poll would have been

"Yes"

"No"

"Was never going to get it"

You're missing the third option which is a very likely scenario. I don't get why everyone has to personalize these polls to make the options sound stupid... :/

What DRM do retail EA games use? I've never bought a retail EA game all of mine are through Steam and every single game is DRM free if you don't count Steam it self.

New games are cheaper in retail anyway, i can usually find a store online that sells the retail game for half the price.

But Steam prices are always full price at release

I might just get the physical media for it. Havent done that for a game since ME2 but we'll see. Id like it on Steam but Im starting to realize I needa start putting games in other places so its not all in one place. Id like a good service though. Not sure where Origin is going to go but the interface is nice and easy. I dont feel as safe with the other digital distributors as I do with Steam though. Everyone else is owned by douche bags - Impulse by Gamestop, D2D by Gamefly, Origin by EA. I dont know.

It was going to be a Day 1 buy for me if it was on Steam. I am OCD on all my games being in one convenient place, and that place for me is Steam.

But now I will most likely wait till it is cheap and just buy it used in retail.

we should trick EA with this survey by making it look like a big majority won't get it unless its on steam, looks like some of you are already trying.

I just preordered it this weekend for the retail limited edition version. I've just been buying a ton of stuff on Steam through the recent sales, but whether a game uses Steam or not makes little difference to me. So long as whatever copy protection on it isn't a total PITA I don't really mind. Considering I'm only getting it for the multiplayer I wouldn't care if it had an "always be online" DRM, as in this instance it would make sense.

As bad as it sounds I likely won't if it's not on steam. I don't really like spending money on games and while I'm interested in BF3 FPS games aren't my main focus, I would likely end up buying it 6 months after release when steam had a sale for like $15 or something.

Because I won't see that sale I likely won't buy it (I don't frequent other DD vendors) ...

I have accounts with several of the better DD services, so it doesn't matter to me who sells a game - if I want the game, I'll buy it.:)
