So, I just got a Powercolor Radeon HD 3850 AGP because I don't have the $$ to upgrade to a PCI-E motherboard yet, and it lags horrendously in cutscenes. It also takes whatever sound was playing before and repeats it over and over again when it goes to a loading screen (The loading times are really long, BTW), and after it's done loading, the game is EXTREMELY laggy for a few seconds.
The games I have tried are The Last Remnant, Devil May Cry 4, and Oblivion. I have uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, used Driver Cleaner, rebooted, installed the newest drivers from Powercolor.com, rebooted, installed the 9.3 hot fix, rebooted twice and that didn't fix it. Help me out! Please.

Are you running a sever motherboard?Or is that a hyperthearding cpu(which shows up as 2 cpu's but is really 1)To get the most out of that card you need a duel core and 2 gigs or ram.It sounds like cpu bottleneck to me.I havre the sapphire version of the card, and it shreds games.

How much Ram you have? This doesnt seem to be a vga problem. Loading times that long should be expected since you have an old system and your processor is holding back the 3850 ( with a newer dual core you should see a major improvement). Also the lag is probably due to not enough ram and or slow hard drive

Your system might be overheating or your hard drive is failing :|

I don't know what a sever motherboard is and I don't know if I'm running just one CPU. :P

Hmm...I guess my only choice is to upgrade my RAM and upgrade to a dual core processor...I just hope it's njot too expensive... :|

You said you have 2 processors? Open the case of your pc and look. BTW you need to find out the socket on your motherboard. If its not LGA775 you wont be buying any dual cores lol

ARGH! This is all too complicated. I'll just bring it to Northern Systems and ask them to upgrade my processor to Dual Core and my RAM to at least 2 Gb. If they have to upgrade anything else in the process, so be it! :x :P

Unfortunately your pentium 4 motherboard most likely won't support a dual core. You will have to upgrade to a PCIE motherboard for that, in which case you need a new video card as well :(

Its probably better to build a new pc since you have to upgrade m/b,ram,cpu and because of the motherboard you will have to upgrade the graphics card as well I suggest put 2gb of ram for now and see how much longer your pc will hold you

It's probably a pentium d or a pentium 4 with ht like you said, and you don't need a c2d and 2 gigs of ram to get the most out of a agp card...To the topic guy, mostly when the first seconds are laggy it's because your vga is loading textures.

There's no need to build a new pc..defrag your hd,that should get you better loading times..

By the way I have a penrium 4 3,2 ghz with ht,2 gigs of ram and a 3850 512mb pcie and it plays every game out there, alot of them on highest at 1440x900,so don't listen if people tell you to build a whole new pc,because you don't need to..

Hey guys, I set AGP to 4x in the CCC and it's fixed now! Although, I'm still upgrading my RAM because it's not too expensive... and maybe in the near future I'll upgrade my whole computer. Thank you guys. :) And I'll defragment my hard drive since I haven't defragmented my D Drive in a LONG time. Oh, and yeah, it's HT processor, not 2 of them. I looked in my PC. :) Thanks again.

No problem,by the way,use "smart defrag" to defrag your hdd,and also optimize it deeply,so you will get better performance(might take a while to finish though, but let it do it you won't regret).
