Problem with source games

All source games that i own especially tf2 do are stuck in the fps range of 30-70 fps no matter what graphics settings i try... max res max aa/af hdr or

lowest res lowest everything else...

my specs

AMD 9950 Black edition oced to 3 ghz quad core
4 gigs sli ready OCZ ram oced
9800 gtx+ stock
windows xp sp2
650 watt powesupply
M3N72-D asus mobo

is there a problem with my drivers or is there a hot fix for this?

Do you have VSync enabled? If so, that's your problem. VSync will cap out the frame rate to whatever the refresh rate is on your display.

Oh yeah duh...

Though I think Vsync locks it at 60fps?

I might be wrong but I also had this issue. I reformatted before they added that in the update and I was confused as to why my gtx295 was running my game so bad. =P

Yeah, VSync will limit it to have a maximum frame rate as your monitor's refresh rate. So if your monitor is set to 60Hz, your frame rate will top out at 60fps.

ok did not solve the problem ill try net graph 5 and see the choke points
