I'm having the same problem on PS3 as I did when I tried using digital audio on my PS2: The damn sound cuts in and out. I'm hoping someone can show me a solution to this here, because this is really unacceptable on PS3. PS2 wasn't a big deal because Digital really wasn't used anyway, so I had no problem going back to regular analog audio.

I must say, the PS systems are the only electronics I've ever had this problem with. Every DVD player I've ever used, as well as Xbox1 and 360 never had any weird audio deals like this. So does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have my system set to optical output, and dolby digital turned on. Seems to me that's all I should have to do.

Have you tried swapping for a different optical cable?

Yeah its definitely not that.

I've tried numerous cables and like I said, I've never had this problem with anything buy PS2 and PS3. So I'm assuming Sony just does some weird vodoo on their optical connections.

My reciever displays the speakers in the upper corner to let you know when they're on. When I use PS3, instead of having a constant signal like I do using a 360 or a dvd player, when there's no sound coming from the game,The speakers completely shut down then cut back in when the audio comes back. So you miss the first part of whatever the sound is doing.

Its not very immersive. let me tell you.

I have the same problem when using Dolby Digital in the game Rockband.

When the in game digital setting is turned on, the sound of the AI bassist only can be heard; the player guitar and the AI vocals are muted out for some reason.

When i uncheck (turn off) the digital box in audio settings of Rockband, then all of the instruments can be heard. its the strangest thing.

This strangely started happening after the v2.40 system update. I have just installed v2.41 and still no fix for my problem.

I am a computer tech guy myself, but cannot figure this one out!

by the way, I use a Yamaha 7.1 Dolby Digital DTS amp, using all 8 speakers.
