I was just wondering someone who knows a little more about computers than I to recommend the best "bang for your buck" PSU that would handle a Q6600 quad-core and 8800GT graphics card. I don't want to spend a fortune on a PSU with all the other parts being so expensive. Any recommendations would be awesome! (I'm using newegg)

You're in luck--this Seasonic PSU (OEM pack) is going for cheap:

Spending less on cheap PSU like the brand Rosewill is not recommended as they are reliable.

I dont know about the best bang for the buck GOOD PSU's though I do recommend brands like Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, Energex.

One PSU from the recommended list that is good, and more than adaquet for your needs is Corsair 520W HX. Its one of my top picks.

If you're spending a good amount of money on components, you'd do well to spend a fair amount of cash on the thing that makes them all work.

$80-$120 should do the trick power supply wise for a setup like that. Units that would fit the bill are the Corsair VX450w, Corsair HX520w, Silverston ST50EF-Plus, Enermax Liberty ELT500w (although it is a bit outclassed at this point), Seasonic S12 or M12 between 450-600w, PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610w, and a few other units.

Other bang for the buck choices...

Thermaltake W0106RU ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V 700Watt $169.99 ($124.99 after rebate)

Mushkin 550150 ATX12V 650Watt $124.99

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V EPS12V 610Watt $118.99

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700Watt $134.99 ($99.99 after rebate)

BFG Tech BFGR650PSU ATX 12v 2.0 / EPS 12V 650Watt $114.99 ($99.99 after rebate)

There are some others, but I'm feeling lazy. Any of these would suit your system's power requirements. Of the ones I listed, I think the OCZ is the best bargain...after the rebate... ;)

Q6600 + 8800 GT can even run on Shuttle's 400W PSU. although it has higher-than-avarage 12V rail amperage (30A)

but you should get at least 450W or 500W PSU when talking about standard desktop-ATX-PSUs. spend on quality brand, so there won't be any unpleasant surprises. they cost more, but they deliver what they promise.

for example any brand that these guys already have mentioned on this topic.

Are you ever planning on SLI in the future? Or do you have just need 1 GPU? If so, grab the Corsair HX520 or the one Wesker suggested. The HX520 can handle 8800gtx in SLI and Q6700 I have seen.

Thanks guys! Not planning to SLI. The one Wesker suggested is the one I decided on grabbing because it was almost 50 bucks cheaperdespite the Corsair HX520 being really good as well. Thanks again for all the input :P
