Are you sure you installed the cooler correctly? It seems as though you didn't put enough thermal paste or didn't position it right

Woah! There's no way it should be getting that hot. What's your airflow like? Fans in your case? What's the fan that you're using on your cpu? And how hot is your case?

my 4850 never gets too hot. I have it at 72% fan speed and it never gets over 60-65c. My case is a NZXT apollo with a side fan and one in the back. I dont know how to tell my case temp. I use CPUIC HWmoniter for my temps

Your HSF isnt seated right, you used too little thermal paste or too much, or your airflow in your case is just horrid. Not trying to be mean but your temps are not okay and with no OC you have a issue somewhere. That isnt normal for a q6600 non oc whatsoever.

I would download Coretemp and Everest Ultimate. See if the temps are different there.

HWmonitor the TMPIN0 is your system temp and not your NB like some say. You might have dead air over the sensor so it might give you bad temps, but the cores.. well.. those shouldnt be that way at all

I edited it but i will say it here too. TMPIN0 is your system temp. TMPIN1 is your chipset temp, or cpu on the die. Then you got your cores.

First thing you do is take off your side panel and run the hell out of your system. OCCT or Orthos, or try WoW again. See how the core temps are. If they are much better then you for a severe airflow issue. If little change then its isolated at the HSF OR your cpu might be giving off bad temps at the sensor.. which isnt likely.

Maybe it's just the crappy stock heatsink. I have my q6600 oc'd to 3.4 and my idle temperature is at 38. On high load it will reach 62 max.

could it by any chance be really dusty? I know it sounds stupid but that can raise your temp a lot.

Have you tried disabling the CPU fan speed control in the BIOS? Look for something like "CPU smart fan control" or something similar and disable it.

Nope, I have a Tuniq Tower 120 heatsink. But my case has a crapload of airflow too with 5 intake fans and 3 exhaust fans.

well i think the airflow in my case is good, there just must be a problem with the heatsink on the cpu. Ive already taken it off like 5 times because when i first built my comp it wasn't on right and was at 100c. then i got it on and it seemed fine but mabye its still not on right.

Applying the thermal compound is also a big factor in installing the heatsink. If you've taken it off that many times then I'm sure the compound is uneven. You would need to clean it and reapply. Just invest some money into an aftermarket heatsink. It'll be well worth it.

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + 120mm fan. It's more expensive though.

I have the exact same case as you and close to the same processor(Q6700). I have the Thermaltake V1 on my CPU. My system idleas at 38 normally, and my CPU is usually at 42 idling or under a light load. The hottest it has ever been was 56 under high COD4 and it was 37 degrees outside :/And usually it is about 49 undera large load (COD4, COH)

I recomend the V1, maybe some arctic silver 5 (I have yet to get AS5 myself).

Dude your temps are fine. My duel core is at 61oC and thats with a freezer pro 7 and its completely stable. If you run a stress test for an hour or so and it doesent crash its not too hot!

PS: note that your CPU had twice as many cores as my pc and only a little more heat. Its fine!

Well its hot but not dangerous. I think people get too used to hearing temps from people with antec 900 cases and a expensive cooler. I turned off the fans on my case because they were loud.

I have ran stress tests on my pc for many hours and it hasnt become unstable once, thus iam able to say it isnt too hot. I know i may reduce its life span from 15 years down to 10 years by having it a little hot but i dont think i will have it that long to be honest.

I haven't tried it on my Q6600, but my AF7P keeps my E6320 nice and cold. But more importantly, it is a lot easier to install than the Intel HSF from my experiences.

I'd also look into the Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer. It's received many favorable reviews, though it doesn't seem to be all that popular yet. It's a bit more expensive than a Freezer 7 Pro, but definitely cheaper than a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with a 120mm fan. (35 US$ on Xoxide is the cheapest price I've seen for it.) The Core Contact Freezer comes with the heatsink, mounting bracket for LGA775 systems, a 120mm fan, a fan controller meant to go in one of your unused expansion slots, and Tuniq TX-2 thermal compound, which is generally said to be superior to Arctic Silver 5 performance-wise and also isn't electrically conductive. All in all, you're getting a lot for your money. However, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend it yet. Why? FedEx hasn't delivered mine yet!

No it wont damage your CPU, its a safety precaution to stop damaging them. People go through this all the time when they overclock their cpu, they bump it up a bit then stress test it...if it reboots its bad,,,if it doesent reboot your safe!

Download OCCT and just hit thebig ON button, but be aware that it will slow your pc down to a crawl because it will stress the **** out of it. But be happy knowing that if it runs happliy under that kinda pressure it will be fine with any kind of game or any other task.

I run double Orthos blend tests at the same time + prime95. Now granted one Orthos will report error at 3.42Ghz after just few min, but temps are still max 60° and i dont have any problems with CPU crashing or freezing (and hopefully wont have), so i just ignore it.

It comes with some pre-applied, but you can get better paste. Also if you ever have to re-seat it, you will need fresh paste. So I would go on and get some.

Yes, you want to get it as clean as possible. I usually wipe it clean with a q-tip and then use an alcohol soaked q-tip to get it real clean.
