Hi all,

I can't decide which to get on J22. Do I want a quad-core Kentsfield at 2.4GHz or the duo-core Conroe at 3MHz with the 1333FSB? At the same price, intel sure knows how to play with your mind. I guess the Kentsfield will be a better multi-tasker while the new Conroe will process stuff faster. What are your opinions?

Thanks for your time.

it depends a lot on how you use your computer, if you use loads of heavily threaded apps, i'd go with the quad, but if you're not planning on running 16 virus scanners at the same time, get e6850.

I'd personally go with the Quad-Core, because it's fast enough for just about any games that even aren't all that multithreaded to begin with, and it will really be a helpful thing for non-gaming stuff that you will likely be doing as well.

Not to mention that some games (like Alan Wake, and HL2: Episode Two) will be able to more readily use a quad-core. Supreme Commander is already one game that sees a great benefit for going quad if you can.

I have this same question, and I'm leaning towards the quad core I guess because in the future more games and apps will take advantage of more cores. BTW anyone play flight sim x with quad core? I know the game is cpu intensive and wondering how well I could eventually run it with a quad good and a good gpu. Curretnly I only am getting fps in the teens with a ati x800xl and a amd 3400.

Thanks

I'd go with the Q6600, but I've heard that the E6850 can hit 4.0GHz on stock cooling. O_o

Yea that's what the guy at my local parts shop tells me too.

What a predicament we have here. I'd feel stupid telling people I bought a duo-core (E6850) when I could of bought a quad-core (Q6600) for the same price. But at the same time, not buying a the newer chips with 1333FSB also seems like a dumb move.

NO processor,AMD or Intel, can hit 4.0GHz on STOCK cooling.

Unless you can find some legit proof...

E6750 clocked at 2.66GHz hitting 3.68GHz on stock voltages and cooling.

I'd expect the E6850, clocked at 3.0GHz, to hit 4.0GHz. :D

E6850 @ 3.6GHz on stock cooling.
