question about a laptop cpu

I want to get a laptop I found one in my price range and it has a Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4 ghz. I wanted to know how this compared to my desktop PC It has a AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core +5200 2.61 ghz. Is the Intel chip slower than what I have or faster? I don't know much about hardware I have to admit so any help would be great. I am looking to play games like call of duty 4, the sims 3, and Diablo 3 on the laptop if i can. I'll put the specs for the two computers down and you can tell me if the laptop is better or not.

Desktop:

Windows XP Media

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core +5200 2.61 ghz

2 gig ram

Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE

Laptop:

Windows Vista

Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4 ghz

4 gig ram

Nvidia Geforce 8700M GT

yeah I might do that, but I still have to get a laptop because of computer shareing issues and lack of space. Because I have to get one for school and whatnot i'd like to play a few games on it. The laptop i was looking at was a area-51 m15x by alienware, I just customized it some.evilmudbug
