Is DDR or DDR2 memory always set to run at twice the speed of the FSB? like, my computer has the FSB running @ 266. so, does this mean that no matter what memory I get, would my memory always be runningĀ at 533 Mhz? And could I make my memory run at the factory default setting of 667 Mhz by upping the FSB to 333?

Does this explain why DDR2800 or DDR21066 is usually great for OCing your CPU?

DDR2-800 runs at 400MHz, 1066 @ 533, they run @ half of their number, which is their effective frequency.

wait, tomshardware said that it is running @ twice the speed of the FSB. So, you might be wrong there, or tomshardware is wrong.

So, would this mean that I wouldent fry my memory if I upped the FSB to 333 Mhz?

Ah yes that is true, but the Intel FSB is quad pumped 1066/4= 266.5 533/2=266.5.

my front side bus is at 1000Mhz, my memory is rated for 800mhz. so no memory is not always set to run at twice the speed of the FSB. as far as upping your FSB, if your not careful you could harm your CPU,motherboard,or other components by upping the speed. i know this from experience.

So, even if I got, say, DDR21066, my memory would still only operate at 533Mhz, and the only thing that increased performance would be the CAS latencies?

your FSB would run at whatever your motherboard supported. if your FSB is 533 mhz theni doubt your motherboard can suport 1066mhz memory. but i dont knowthat for sure. maybe you should consult your documention.

ddr2-800 runs at 400 mhz if it's in dual channel, at 800 mhz in single channel. (I think, not 100% sure).

DDR2 PC6400(DDR2 800) memory runs at 800 mhz indepently
