Question about monitors and Resolutions.

I was over at my GF's house and her dad has a custom built PC. He has a samsung monitor with 1920x1080 resolution. I;m wondering how come MW2 looks better in 1680x1050 than the 1080 resolution? And how come the 1080 monitors are less expensive than the 1680x1050? Doesnt make sense to me.

Oh. I was looking around Newegg and all the 1080 monitors were like arund 200 or so. but when i manually searched 1680x1050, most of them were above 200 or so. Only a few out of like 35 were below 200 dollars. Wouldnt it just be better to buy the 1080 monitor since its cheaper and set it to 1680x1080 res?

Not necessarily. When you're putting a 1080p monitor below its native resolution to 1680x1050, the picture will get slightly blurred and distorted due to the monitor not outputting its native resolution. The picture on a monitor is always clearest when you have it at its native resolution.

It also looks bad, most probably because that's a TN monitor, there are expensive monitors and cheap monitors, take another look around the web for an S-IPS or even more expensive S-PVA, ive got a S-PVA 24" and it looks brilliant.

I think have the answer. It could be that the graphics card doesn't support 1080p. I don't know about ATI's, but in Nvidia's case you need at least a GeForce 9 series.colt92

Where did you get that information from?

I had a 7600GT and I could easily run 1920*1200, playing games was another thing.

And my last card, an 8800GTS (512) could run at 1920*1200, and it could play crysis with a mix of medium/high, so wherever your getting that information from its wrong.
