My motherboard (http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/dg965ot/index.htm) has 1 PCI express X16. The graphics card I want to get says that it uses a PCI express 2.0, can I still put the new card into a regular PCI express slot, or do i need a motherboard with a PCI 2.0?

PCI-express 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 so you are all set with your current board.

Yeah true, but it has a dis-adavantage that your card will work at PCI-E 1.0 speed about (2GB/ps) while with PCI-E 2.0 works twice.

How much of a disadvantage, would it be signifcant enough for me to run out and spend money on a new MB. I will eventually get a new one but I want to hold off as long as I can.

Absolute no disadvantage in performance. You don't need to buy a new motherboard. You are good to go.

You may cannot feel the speed losing but the framerate which goes twice more will go like the PCI-E 1.0. but I am sure that you won't feel it.

Anyway why don't you try it at your old mobo, when it has crashes and other problems you buy a new one? You won't lose nothing with trying it...

it's a slight disadvantage at best xeno, I would not worry about it xeno. You are good to go with your current board.

It is not a fact it happens, even if you had the PCI-E 2.0 Slot you are able to get better benchmark results...

And never call people troll!

Prove it.

Quote: PCIe 2.0 doubles the bus standard's bandwidth from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s, meaning a x32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GB/s in each direction.

Don't let that fool you. You can change the PCI-E speed to 8X and you will get the same results as 16X.

Do not understand what you want to say?

You haven't proved nothing only told me somthing I already know. Where are the higher benchmarks?

From the site you post:- Guess you didn't read it.

the move from PCI Express 1.0a to 2.0 does not result in a performance increase with the current crop of graphics cards.

ATI's Radeon HD2900 XT gains two percent more performance, as do the HD3850 and HD3870, as well as Nvidia's Geforce 8800 GT. Such a small improvement could have many causes completely unrelated to the new interface, such as the newer chipset, slightly higher system memory frequency, or simply margin of error.

actually we have passed 7x speed so its save to assume we already passed 8x but we haven't come close to 16x yet let alone PCI2.0 speeds so 2.0 is pretty much useless.. 5fps boost BEST case scenario.

I was thinking one of these two.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261001

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127333

Which one would be the best choice out of those two, if you know of a better card around the same price I would appreciate it if you could mention it here.

Oh and I have an Intel core 2 duo E6300, DG965OT MB, Currently a 7950GT, and 2gb ram.

There is no advantage of PCI 2.0 right now because there isnt any graphic card out in market that is pushing that much of banwidth. Current gen gpu cards didnt even reach 16x limit yet so who ever said that you will get more fps with 2.0 either ur on crack or just plain dumb.
